What kind of bag was it and how did he know there was a gun in it?
If it was a marked gun bag, it's not really concealed and, then yes, I think he could stop you. If it was concealed, what tipped him off? Do you need better concealment? Obviously if he knows you have a gun it's not concealed.

You do make a good point about the serial killer thing.
I guess what bothered me was his approach. He could have walked up to me and said Sir, if you are bringing a gun in the store for an employee to view we need to check it"
Not cornering me and raise his hands to block my movement.
Next time I will go with a shirt that says:
"NO, I am not carrying a gun for an employee to check" ha ha..
I like Sportsmen Warehouse more anyways.
I just did it for the 20% coupon.

what you fail to appreciate, is that it is that guy's job to make sure no one goes into the store with an out in the open loaded gun.
It's the same way at Sportsman's Warehouse.
he shouldn't have been able to spot your carry gun. If it's in a bag, then he has to assume you are going to show it to a sales associate.

He never saw the gun. It was in my front pocket.
He saw the bag and assume there was a gun in it.
Also Sportsmen Warehouse has a sign not someone question every single person with a bag.

Texas Penal Code
Text
§20.01. Definitions.
In this chapter:
(1) "Restrain" means to restrict a person's movements without
consent, so as to interfere substantially with the person's liberty,
by moving the person from one place to another or by confining the
person. Restraint is "without consent" if it is accomplished by:
(A) force, intimidation, or deception;
§20.02. Unlawful restraint.
(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or
knowingly restrains another person.
(c) An offense under this section is a Class A misdemeanor
I would have, at minimum, called the PD. I would have told him to move aside, and when he did not I would have taken action. I am under NO obligation to answer his questions or tell him I have a CHL. If they have a policy against carry in the store, they can order me to leave. However, cornering me, placing his arms up and telling me that "he can't let me go anywhere" establishes his intent to PREVENT me from leaving.

I'm not sure what you meant about "anywhere", if he wouldn't even give you the opportunity to leave the store, then he was wrong. If he meant anywhere in the store, well that's questionable. Then he walk closer to me with a very frim voice and said I can not let you go anywhere. Now lets check that gun
My take on this is that he thought you had a gun in the bag, as you say. Telling him that you don't have a gun should give you a pass. Even showing inside the bag would have satisfied him, but I wouldn't think you'd have to do that.
Say you walked into the store with a rifle case marked "SKS". Wouldn't you think he has the right to examine it? Even though it may not have a gun in it?
There is a sign posted on the doors requesting all guns be shown before entering, as a store policy. I don't think that has anything to do with concealed carry law.
Bottom line is somehow he knew or suspected you had a gun. He doesn't know how stupid or smart people are, it sounds as if he was doing his job. Basically, you told him you had a gun. Maybe his actions were inappropriate, and possibly potentially illegal. But I wouldn't blame store policy on this incident.

I have never been to a Cabella's. I frequent Academy all the time. The Gander Mountain in Beaumont has a sign that states (paraphrasing) that all firearms must be unloaded prior to entering and that CHL'rs are exempt. I like the specific details of the Gander Mountain sign. I am pretty certain I have seen specific signs in other gun stores that have gunsmith services.
I agree with TXI. I would have called PD and the store and individual would have regretted his action. I do not think he was doing his job. He may have been doing what he thought was his job, but I think he is a bully and needs to be brought down a notch or two.
Anygun

Question or need of clarification "GSchretter"...
The link you provided showed some belt "rigs" that look like fanny packs...
Is that the "bag" you are referring to, and the "bag" the orange jacketed store employee was referring to???
Or were you carrying the firearm in an opaque/not clear, or see through "shopping" type bag...
I guess I haven't "clicked" to this just yet...
