For years I used the Lee lube that came in a tube for most of my cases. I'd squeeze some onto an old Army brown towel, dump cases in the middle, and roll them back and forth. Worked pretty well.
For my "precision" rifle loads, I used RCBS lube on a pad. Neck size only situations got Imperial die wax.
I'm a little surprized at the issue with Lee dies. Lee's have usually been easier for me to work with when things go wrong.
I started out using the Lee lube, since that's what came with my kit. For the longest time, I didn't need it at all, since I was only loading pistol calibers on carbide dies. When I started loading rifle, I used the Lee lube, but I got tired of smearing lube one case at a time real fast when doing batches of 200 cases.
I have been using this oily-feeling spray that I picked up at Cabela's (which they no longer carry) so I could spray the entire batch at once. It works well, but it messes up the finish on anything plastic it touches. Otherwise, I've had no problems with it.
I considered the rag route with the Lee lube, but I'd hate to waste all the lube that got soaked up by the rag. Is there a trick to that?
Next on my list to try is the Hornady One Shot pump spray stuff, which claims to not mess up plastic:

Though, if I could find an efficient way to apply paste/wax type lube to my .223 cases without having to digitally smear each one by hand, I'd rather go that route. That Hornady Unique stuff does sound interesting.
