30 cal bullet question??

#1

Post by RiverRat »

Ok, stupid question time. I haven't ever reloaded rifle.
On a .30 cal bullet, I have a bunch or 150 grain soft points, are they all useable on 30.06, .308, and on 30-30? ( I realize the flat on the end of the 30-30 because of the tube mag).
Thanks,

If they are .308 diameter bullets then yes, some 7.62 ".30 cal" bullets are actually .311 diameter and bad things can happen when mixed. I would check to ensure I have load data for those bullets (or something very very very similar) before loading them into different cartridges.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

yes, you want to be careful about bullet 'calibre' vs real diameter

the 7.62x39 (AK-47 round) uses the .311 diameter bullets, not .308 (like 7.62 NATO).

I *think* some American made rifles in 7.62x39 may have been made to use .308 bullets (Ruger Mini-30???)

If they are the flat nosed 150s designed for the .30-30, you'll want to be careful what velocities you drive them.

Velocities from a .308 would probably be 600fps faster than the .30-30.
