Malfunctioning Printer

The drum warning light stays on and my Brother HL1440 laser printer will not feed a piece of paper. Been through this one time before. Wiped the drum off with incredibly soft Charmin and it printed fine. Not this time. Just little growling noises and no printing. Ideas Thanks in advance.

(the little felt drum strip is pretty dirty)

I used to have that same printer.

The first thing to do is to reset the drum's print counter. I don't remember how to do that, exactly. Something to do with holding down the button while you turn the printer on...or something.

But if that doesn't work, your best bet will probably be to buy a new drum. I went with refurbished because they were, at the time, about half the price of the "real deal."

Thanks Sarah, I have replaced the Brother with an HP 1020 laser printer. $179, on sale at Office Depot for $99. A new drum for the Brother was $150. The HP prints well, but immediately I see that it is sizing type smaller than the Brother did, and I assume both were set at 100%. Thanks again.
