Blog software?

Does anyone have a recommendation for blog software? I want to run it on one of my websites, so I'm not interested in the hosted blog websites like Blogger, etc.

Wordpress is pretty good. It's a fairly user-friendly interface, and there are some good add-ons that will keep the comment spam to a minimum. Feel free to pm me is you have any questions about it.

I have used about 5 of them. What do you want to do with it? Are you wanting JUST a basic set of blogging tools or do you want blogging plus more? Some blogging software is dang near a full CMS and WordPress is one of those. That isn't bad, but it might be more than you want/need.

If you're going to run a site that gets any amount of real traffic, don't use wordpress on a hosted setup like dreamhost' it'll crash pretty easily under any load.

Run it on a dedicated box.

Ditto Wordpress. It's nearly a full CMS, like Kalrog said, but you can use it as-is and enjoy both ease of use and a full feature set. Huge support base, too.

I will still recommend Blogger. It works just fine on a hosted site, and its free. Will run fine on a windows Sun or Linux platform. One can set it up easy enough, one can have it running in a half an hour. Please drop me a line if you have any questions. I run 2 active blogs, and have had good luck with them. The beauty of blogger is that there is no PHP code to sweat. If you want to customize anything its done with menus and a little html. You can get it up and running on blogspot if you wish and move it to your own hosted site very easily. It will cost nothing to try it out. I do not recommend blogspot as a permenant solution. but it is fine to experiment with.
