500 Server error?

Last night (Monday) at home, and this morning on a different computer in another location, I've gotten the following error message:

"500 Server Error

The web server encountered an error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. If this error persists, please contact the webmaster, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error."

Last night it was just trying to read. This morning, trying to preview a post. We'll see if this one works...

Anyway I don't know what I might have done to cause an error, just reporting as the error message said to do.

Regards,
Andrew

I had this problem last night, but I'm just getting on for the first time today. I'm not sure why this is happening, but we had this problem a few months ago and it was traced to a problem with Network Solutions "pointing" at the server with Icdsoft.

I trying to find out what happened.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Chas.

Me too.....and it was a critical time as I was trying to reply to PM's about a gun I had for sale.

Managed to get through it though and sell the gun.

Since this website is a phpbb and is fed/run my sql it could be that the sql server was bogged down and it failed to get a reply fast enough to generate the website

It happens alot...as long as the admin keeps the releases updated (they have hacks ALOT against phpbb) everything will be cool

I run several phpbb and other sql run sites (on my personal webserver) and if its heavily loaded (by internet spiders and such) it can get boggy quick.

Got the 500 Server Error message twice just now at 11:15 and 11:18 CDT. Then when I sent this post I got a:

Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : emailer.php

But it had apparently posted OK.

I'm going to post and just say that I have never gotten it. I use IE7 at work (yuck - MS) and FF at home on 64 bit Linux (Kubuntu).

If you're using IE go to tools options, advanced, settings, and scroll down to show friendly http error messages and put a check by it if it is not already checked. Then scroll down to Use HTTP 1.1 and Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connection and check mark both of them. Apply, then close out of IE and start again.
