Re: Response from Senator Cornyn
One sure way to destroy any opposition to Sotomayor would be for a Senator to come out and publicly say she's unfit, unqualified, [add your adjective], or that you have already made up your mind, before the hearings even start and she has an opportunity to answer questions.
As for "getting what deserve," I proudly voted for Cornyn as Texas AG, as a member of the Texas Supreme Court and as Senator. He is precisely who I want in Washington and I am a life-long conservative Republican.
Chas.

Nor does your definition of conservative control.frazzled wrote:Republican does not equal conservative.

What definition?
My simple point. If you want the same results, vote for the same people. We can agree to disagree.

It's the same form letter that I received.

Re: Response from Senator Cornyn
You really expect someone as busy as a Senator to sit down and hand-write a unique personal letter to every one of the constituents who contacts him?

Nope, I do not.
But, I do expect them to follow the requests/desires of the people that voted them into office when a large number of incoming letters to them are saying the same thing. I expect them to read the letters and act accordingly or be ready to hit the street on the next election.

Re: Response from Senator Cornyn
Looks like Cornyn is going to do the right thing. Even though it makes no difference in the outcome, he at least has the gumption to vote as the majority of his constituents (less the illegal immigrant sector) wants him to.
AP today:
Republicans call Obama's nominee an activist who would bring prejudice to the high court, pointing to a few rulings in which they argue she showed disregard for gun rights, property rights and job discrimination claims by white employees.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, cited all three issues. "I cannot vote to confirm a nominee to the United States Supreme Court who will restrict several of the fundamental rights and liberties in our Constitution, including our Bill of Rights," he said. "The stakes, I believe, are simply too high to confirm someone who could redefine the law of the land from a liberal perspective."
EDIT: Changed from past tense to present....vote has not happened yet, but at least he has indicated what he is gonna do.

Re: Response from Senator Cornyn
Cornyn is in other news this morning, for opposing Obama's recent "flag@whitehouse.gov" fiasco. It turns out I was wrong about Cornyn and I apologize to him and the other members on this forum for my ugly comment about him a few weeks ago.

The first order of our elected representatives is to get re-elected. Every once in a while there is time left from the first order to consider the wishes of the constituency. Perhaps this was one of those times?TheArmedFarmer wrote:Cornyn is in other news this morning, for opposing Obama's recent "flag@whitehouse.gov" fiasco.
