Approved in 2 weeks!!! YES TWO WEEKS!
OMG! OMG! I sent in my application on 4/18. I just checked the status and it is issued! I need to run to my mailbox and see if it came (I haven't checked my mail for 2 days)!!!!
I thought where I just moved here from out of state, it would take a lot longer with the back ground check and stuff. I'm guessing maybe the fact that I had a firearms permit in MA (where I just moved from), and knowing it's almost impossible to get one in MA maybe helped me??
OMG! I'm so excited!!!
I LOVE TEXAS!!!!!!

Welcome to Texas, Friend!
Get used to things being better. Your in Texas now! Yeah, you will find we are pretty much a proud bunch down here.
Just get ready for some boiled mudbugs, Gulf shrimp, crabs and Gulf oysters that are to die for! That should help you through any clam withdrawal you may start to experience. If it gets too tough for you, we even have clams, too.
You're gonna love this state. Did you know the reason we can fly our Lone Star Flag at the same level as Old Glory? It's because we are the only state that had to fight and win our independence. Just so you know, OK?

The world is a dangerous place to live....not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it!

I'm in the same boat with you, almost. My application was completed today, and status updated online! I'm hoping they mailed out my paperwork today.. if so, it'll be here tomorrow.
Took CHL Class 14 APR 07
Sent application packet 16 APR 07
Status changed to "Processing Application" 18 APR 07
Status changed to "License issued or certificate active" 10 MAY 07
I should have my license in the next couple of days! Still interested in what speeds up or slows down the process. I'm federal, and have a security clearance; it took 3 weeks to approve. One of the guys I work with has the same [probably a higher clearance] and is a retired officer, and within 14 days, he had his license in hand.
I'm still surprised they accepted my pictures. They weren't exactly to the correct specification and measurement.. but no worries, I guess.
I can't wait!

I still wonder if the fact I have a firearm license from Massachusetts (where I just moved from) helped speed it up.
In MA, you need a license to go into a store to LOOK and touch firearms (no exaggeration); to posses ammo (live OR spent), to own mace, to store a firearm in the house, or basically to even THINK of owning a gun. OK, the last point is a slight exaggeration. Plus, MA is a MAY issue state, where it is up to the local town police chief if you get a license. SO basically, even if you pass the classes, and the background check, if the chief is against private gun ownership (which almost all are), he doesn't have to issue you a license. Plus, the AWB is still in effect along with MA only reg's on pistols which make 90% of all pistols made illegal in MA. Even current production Glocks and the like are illegal, unless they were registered by the owners (which all guns are required to be) in the state of MA prior to 1994. Used 15 year old Glocks sell for $400-$500 due to the limited supply. Plus all trigger must have a minimum 10 pound pull, so no DAK or Safe-action pistols allowed. AND, each gun has to be tested and certified by the state AG before they can be sold. So there are instances where a blue version of a pistol is legal, but the stainless version of the exact same pistol is not if the stainless was also not test.
Oh, and if he does give you a license, you can almost forget about it allowing you to carry. I think I had one of only 5 in the state that would allow me to carry.
I would think TX knowing the anti-2A restriction in the state of MA, and the fact I actually possessed a license even with all that, had to help speed up my time.
What do you think?

I doubt anyone involved in the processing of applications is allowed to deviate from the process or show initiative.Shadowboxer wrote:I would think TX knowing the anti-2A restriction in the state of MA, and the fact I actually possessed a license even with all that, had to help speed up my time. Since you just moved, Texas had to send your background check to Mass. Maybe having a license in Mass. made it easier for Mass. to clear you.

YEAH!
Plastic received in the mail today. So, exactly one month after I sent my packet to DPS, I got my license. That's pretty good. Now, if only we could get DPS to give counter service this fast while we wait in line at the DMV!
