Re: 100+ Club
I'm nowhere near the 100 mark yet, but I thought I would just go ahead and get in line here. Many interesting tales and much humor. Seems like we all need it. Being currently unemployed, I would be more than happy to contract out with DPS to run bg's. I would just run them and put them in the app and the tech could screen it and get on down the road. I would be a machine, an animal with a keyboard....... Of course when I run across my app, sometime in the distant future, it would go to the top of the pile. For many years I have made every job I ever had much more efficient. That's what lazy people do. Others think we're smart. Not true. Making something go faster, easier, cost less, work better and such is the sign of a truly lazy person. Nothing wrong with that. It's just progress.

The funny part is, theyre doing work they don't have to!lonewolf wrote:I'm nowhere near the 100 mark yet, but I thought I would just go ahead and get in line here. The level of the background check required is at their discretion. If they simply reduced it to a simple electronic check, then it wouldn't take more then a few seconds for each one, but, from what I've heard, theyre doing a LOT more detailed checks then they need to.
IANAL, YMMV, ITEOTWAWKI and all that.

It sounds like you've been talking to DPS or that you've heard another "excuse". Also - honestly - do you really think they are doing work they don't have to? It almost seems (from reading much on this forum) that they create more work in efforts to delay issuing licenses - I've never seen so many trips from Houston to Dallas by way of El Paso before.dicion wrote:The funny part is, theyre doing work they don't have to!

Re: 100+ Club
I'm sure they're doing work they don't have to. Its a bureaucracy not a business. They have to justify their budget and create enough makework to get an increase the next year. No administrator I have ever met wants a budget decrease. Everywhere I was stationed in the Navy, we had a buying spree just before the end of the fiscal year to show we had used all our budget so we could get the same or more money the following year. It was amazing to see. The same thing starts to happen when companies get really large. The department managers want to have as much as they can, so they will find ways to justify the spending rather than justifying reasonable and sane cutbacks or promoting true efficiences.

I was told beside criminal BG they checked with IRS, county/city tax authorities, student loans (I am 61). I wasn't aware issues with taxing authorities could hold up a CHL. Is this true?Aladinbama wrote:It sounds like you've been talking to DPS or that you've heard another "excuse". Also - honestly - do you really think they are doing work they don't have to? Partially. I called last month to specifically verify that they do not check for IRS tax liens. The phone taker who answered, and e said yes they do. I asked her if she was positively for sure.....she said "no, hold on a minute and I'll let you talk to an admin.specialist." I asked her the same question....."no, absolutely not. We don't check with the IRS. We couldn't care what IRS does. But what we DO care is about is state tax liens, any taxing authority within the state, and unpaid student loans." And the student loan section of the statute is going away as of Sept. 01 due to amending the original law.
State & local tax liens are a basis for denial of license. Federal tax liens are not.

I hit the 100 mark today. I might have to give back four days I lost for having to send in new electronic fingerprints. It looks like I have plenty of company.

Unless you fill out a 4506 they are not getting anything from the irs without a federal subpoena.joe817 wrote:I was told beside criminal BG they checked with IRS, county/city tax authorities, student loans (I am 61). I wasn't aware issues with taxing authorities could hold up a CHL. Is this true?
