Today is 21 April, mailed 10 March...how do I get a status of where I am in the process??

I went to work offshore for a month and was hoping the CHL would be waiting for me when I got home yesterday.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike and welcome. If you applied online you can check your progress through the DPS website, if not you will have to get your PIN before you can check. I mailed my application on the 10th as well, and I am in the "Processing Application" stage, so I would guess you are in the same boat as I am. I plan on waiting until 70 days and then contacting DPS if I have not seen any developments.

Cheers,

I was told when I took my CHL course that there is a waiting period of 60 business day before you will get your plastic. So that is 12 weeks so there is no reason to get in a hurry. I mailed mine on Feb 22 and I finally got my pin number last Thursday.

1-800-224-5744 is the number given by the website, so do I just call them with the application number, DL, and SSN?

If you follow the links, they will show you how to track your progress. Calling them just waste there time and makes everyone wait longer. Click the link that says...Track The Status of Your Application.

Got it. A PIN can be requested by e-mail.

Thanks.

You should update your sig with your time line. Mine as you can see is depressing. I'm holding fast to just checking my status once a day. However I did email yesterday asking WTH??

Good Luck,
Rob

I mailed in the application over 60 days ago. Here is the reply I received via e-mail:

Your application has not been entered into the system. It is likely
going though the processes required before entry. When a completed
application is entered you will be sent a confirmation letter with your
PIN number.

I called. He told me my application was not in the electronic system yet, so that DPS could not issue me a PIN yet. Also told me it takes more than 90 days to get it in the system (for a mail in) and that processing times have slowed. I asked him how I could be sure they even received my application. He said to see if my check had cleared and that would be my indicator. The check did clear (50% off for veteran, DD214 included in the mailing). He also indicated that just because the application had not been entered into the system, that it does not mean nothing is being processed on the application (what the heck does that mean?).

The conspiracy theorist in me says that gooberment is purposely slowing down this process waiting on the US Supreme Court ruling re the DC case, or they are waiting for Obama or Hillary to get elected so that our guns can be taken away. Which I guess they would do CHL or not.

What it means is that they actually have more people processing the applications than they do doing the data entry required for you to get a pin.

This is TEXAS, not someplace up North.......
Believe me, there is no conspiracy making you wait. They would LOVE nothing more than to get it to you tomorrow!

Their system is overloaded at this time and I know personally of people who have waited a very long time for a PIN only to find that there is nothing in the system. Then the system shows that the application is being processed a few days later and even before "application approved" appears, they had their plastic in hand.

So, it is seriously slow in the data entry areas and a PIN will not help you on that anyway.

Good Point! :smilelol5:

Anyway, chill out, forget about it and you will have it sooner than you would worrying about it.

Yep, that's what I told myself from the beginning. I head overseas again next week. I'll be gone for another month. Maybe when I get back...
