Waiting since Feb!!!!
I turned in my application the beginning of Feb. 1 month late i get a letter saying they need my LES, ok no problem get that fixed. June rolls around and they need side profile pictures b/c i am 20. OK, why didn't they just tell me that when they asked for my LES. O well, send the pictures off, contact them by phone to make sure there are no other issues, and they say everything is good to go. I shouldn't have any more issues during the processing. I get back from a 2 month course, and i still dont have my CHL. I called them today. I was told that there doesnt look to be any more problems with my application, and they just have so many people applying for CHL that its taking so long. Personally i think they are yanking my chain till i turn 21 in November. What do you guys/gals think?

I think the TX DPS is very slow at processing 120-180 days and very quick at making poor excuses. After 90+ days I gave up trying to explain things to the troglodytes at DPS and spoke with the legislative liaison for DPS. About 2 hours later (literally) my license was completed issued and mailed.

If I was you...I would talk to my state rep. It always helps, and that is what they are there for. I know it helped me when I couldn't get a straight answer, then magically got it a day after my State Rep called them .

Isn't the minimum age for a CHL 21?

Not for active-duty military . . .

Doesn't the clause say as "long as you meet the other requirements" one of which is to be old enough to buy a hand gun under federal law and that age is 21 right?LarryH wrote:Not for active-duty military . . .
I took the CHL course last weekend and my instructor had a hissy fit about how silly this is. Of course that is just what the law says it may not be what they practice.

Active duty military is an exception to that. AD can get a CHL (free) but cannot purchase a handgun. He can receive it from someone who can legally purchase one (IIRC).jeremya wrote:Doesn't the clause say as "long as you meet the other requirements" one of which is to be old enough to buy a hand gun under federal law and that age is 21 right?LarryH wrote:Not for active-duty military . . .
