July 2009 Applications
...because that sounds much more current than "April 2007 Applications".
After my first attempt of applying online in '07 and then failing to take the class, I recovered my PIN from DPS and went through the online process again in June. I finally had the opportunity to take my class yesterday, and the application is going in the mail tomorrow.
Question for anyone else who's applied online recently: what fingerprint cards were you sent with your packet? I got two of the state cards but no FBI card. After my class, I swapped for one of the FBI cards in order to match what the directions require. Other classmates had received two FBI cards or two state cards.
Looking forward to posting again around my birthday in December that my plastic has arrived.

If I had a gun for every ace I have drawn, I could arm a town the size of Abilene.

Re: July 2009 Applications
I too applied online in June as well(taking my class this next Saturday, finally), and I received 2 DPS fingerprint cards as well.
I was thinking about swapping one for the FBI cards while in class as well. Good luck to you!

I took the class end of June.
When I went to get my fingerprints they trashed my Fed fingerprint sheet and gave me a new one at DPS. Since I live in Austin I turned in my app direct to the office.

Re: July 2009 Applications
Thanks for the warm welcome
Try and find a FAST place to do your electronic fingerprinting, they will make sure it's done correctly. When I was at DPS they said they didn't use the fed fingerprint form anymore. Also had a friend go to one of the FAST fingerprint places and they had the forms needed there.
Hope this helps

Re: July 2009 Applications
I went ahead and mailed the application as-is, but I will definitely go to the Austin FAST site if I get any pushback.nmartine wrote:Try and find a FAST place to do your electronic fingerprinting, they will make sure it's done correctly. DPS needs to update the green CR-75 form they mail with the applications given that it sounds like the policy has changed. It says:
By Rule, the applicant must deliver the following documents to you:
...
3. Two blank Applicant fingerprint cards supplied by DPS (a DPS card and an FBI Card, or two FBI Cards).
...
When they spell it out that way, it certainly makes having two DPS cards in the packet seem like a packaging screwup than the current accepted standard.

Re: July 2009 Applications
They only use one of the two fingerprint cards, I got a FED one from the class I took up at Eagle Peak Shooting Range and if I remember correctly he took the FED one and tossed it and gave me two of the other. It's a pain I went to two different buildings and had to redo my passport photo at a nearby wal-green's.

Re: July 2009 Applications
Newbie here. I passed my test Saturday, got my fingerprints Monday and sent the application off, certified, return receipt, Tuesday. I would have mailed it Monday, but while the instructions said that a personal check was OK, the form said that it had to be a cashier's check and I didn't want to take the risk.
My pack (from our instructor) had one state and one FBI card. The deputy messed up the state card, but had spare blank ones (our Sheriff is pro CHL), so that was OK. It was electronic fingerprints, but printed out not wired to Austin. Now I get to wait.

Hi usa1, thanks for the welcome.usa1 wrote:hi chartreuse,

I wondered if it might be the form that was out of date, rather than the instructions, but, as you say, why take the risk for the sake of one day?
Hutchinson County, right up in the Panhandle.
Edited to add: USPS reports that my package was delivered this morning, so now the waiting really begins.

Re: July 2009 Applications
As long as we're on the topic of fingerprint cards & fingerprints(my next to favorite topic to fret about, lol), I took my class last Saturday. I had applied online and in it was 2 DPS f.p. cards.
When it was time to get fingerprinted at class, the fingerprint guy looked at both of them, called the instructor over to him, and asked if he had an FBI f.p.card as he was experiencing rejections because one wasn't an FBI card.
Now before you start getting antsy, I can't believe that what is supplied by DPS would be rejected because of the f.p.cards...I'm just passing along what I heard.
In any event, I got fingerprinted, let them dry out good for the remaining 3 hours, put it in my packet. When I got home I took a very careful look at them and it appears to me that 1...possible 2 of the f.p.'s were not well defined. Great. Just great.
Now I know NOTHING about what they look for when studying them, but I really don't want to take any chances, so I'm seriously thinking about going to FAST and have it done again there. I really don't want to wait an additional 60 days, because of a bad f.p. and take the chance of turning in what I have, and being delayed. It only costs $9.95 and I'd rather have peace of mind than a 'bad feeling' about what I turn in.
But that's just me.
