December 2009 Applications

Well, the ball is officially in DPS's court on getting my CHL. I did have something weird go on at the post office though. The lady that took care of me insisted that If I didn't put the brown envelope, that clearly has the send to address printed on the front of it, into one of those Post office sleeves she could not send my forms. So, she ended up having to fold 2 of the edges of the envelope to fit it into the sleeve.
She did make sure nothing was caught where she made the folds at, but will the DPS still accept my forms if they are sent to them in one of these sleeves?
Re: Got the forms sent off to DPS. One question however.

I sent mine in an envelope provided by the post office. My original packet was mangled, and I bought a standard white and had it sent in. They received it and its processing.
I had the same question when I sent mine.
Good luck on the wait. Its torture.

Whew...
I was getting nervous because I know how picky DPS can be. I guess it's not what's on the outside that counts. It's what is on the inside. So, now what should I expect now? I'm assuming the return receipt, then after that I get a PIN Number that will tell me what the status of my application is?

Shorty - you need to start a new topic for December 2009.
Were you sending it Express Mail (overnight)? In that case you need to use their envelope. For Priority mail you can use your own envelope. I sent it Priority with a tracking number on Monday and it arrived in Austin on Wednesday.

I thought I used just regular ole' mail. I only paid about 5 bucks to send it. Seems like overnight would be at the least 20 to 30 bucks.
Thanks for the comment, I revised the title to read December 2009 Apps.

So, what is the typical waiting time now? Mine seemed like forever. But that was last Spring and Summer.

Looks like about a month (in some cases) according to some of the last folks to receive their plastic.

I wish I had sent mine in right after my class instead of dinking around. I have an out of state background check that will have to be done and I have a feeling the holidays are going to gum up the works. They received my packet the day before thanksgiving. Come on DPS!

Checked my bank account and noticed that my check had cleared on 12/3. My current timeline is in my signature. Utilizing my time to look for holsters for my 1911 since the cost of adding another one to my collection looks bleak due to limited finances.

Well I thought I'd join in the discussion. I sent my application Tuesday. I guess I should add this to my signature, but so far:
11/21/09 Class
11/25/09 Paid On-Line
12/7/09 Received Packet
12/8/09 Mailed Packet

First post...
Moved to Austin, TX from the People's Repulbik of Illinois (near Chicago) earlier this year. It always disgusted me that the right to carry was denied where I lived. Finally found the time to take a CHL class last Saturday instructed by Michael Cargill (
http://www.txconcealedhandgunclass.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Luckily I also had a day off the following Monday to hand deliver the packet (5806 Guadalupe Street, Austin, TX 78752). No criminal history, three addresses and two employers in the last five years, so hopefully the background check will go quickly.
Hopefully the holidays won't drag my application on for too long!
