In September I applied and mailed off my app for the Florida non-resident permit:

TIMELINE FOLLOWS:
- I sent in the app on Sept 13th
- they received it on monday Sept 18th
- they cashed the money order on the Sept 21st
- they began processing on the 3rd of Oct and sent out the prints that day as well
- I called this monday (Oct 23rd) and they said they received word the prints were fine and approved the license over the phone, I should receive it in the next 7-10 days I was told.

- Hopefully they don't really mean 7-10 days....i'm crossing my fingers it will be here by friday. Well, that's all...just thought i'd let you know their current timeline in case any of you were interested in obtaining your FL non-resident.

Thank you for this post. I am interested in one that will fill the gap between renewal & receiving the plastic if there is a problem or delay. Floriday & Utah are the ones I am going to look at.

Well, if Texas doesn't get off their duff and get mine processed soon, I may have to check into the Florida license thing. I mailed mine in Sept 14th. Today October 24th, the state website still says, "Packet mailed to Applicant."

JRG...

It took 67 days to receive my TX CHL. Maybe FL is behind too like TX ('cause of Katrina and other situations). You've only waited 40 some-odd days. The average here is 60+ days (or more!). So I'd say, pull up a chair and enjoy the show. Patience is a virtue don't forget...

longtooth - If your only reason is to fill the gap, you might take a look at Virginia. It took about 23 days and that includes fingerprints. Its good for five years and I think I read that in January they are going to a life time license but that may not apply to non-residence. You don't get near the states that Florida does but if it is to just fill the gap it would work. I do appreciate what Florida did for the non-rez carriers awhile back and for that reason I would pick Florida over Utah.

Thank you stash. I never go anywhere & have never been anywhere. Never been East of Shreveport La. West of Roswell NM. At 56 I have seen the gulf one time & crossed the Houston ship chanel twice.
With all the delays folks have experienced, I have said that 6 months to reknew only sounds like a long time.
