Hey guys,
I mailed off my paperwork yesterday. It arrives tomorrow so I hope to have my license in hand before Thanksgiving. Let's see how it goes.
9/12/12: App filed online
9/20/12: Fingerprints taken
10/27/12: CHL course taken with Brian at "The Arms Room" in League City.
10/29/12: Paperwork mailed off. Used priority mail flat rate and it had a tracking number to arrive 10/31. Happy Halloween.
I guess i just knocked on the DPS's door and said: Trick or Treat. Let's hope I get my treat.

Our CHL 100 renewals were received in Austin on 24 October according to the USPS. Texas CHL website acknowledges receipt of payment but says they're still awaiting required submittals.
Apparently, the CHL website is not updated with the same fervor as received fees are deposited? Our current licenses are good until mid-February. I'll give 'em another couple days and then chat them up.

It normally takes two weeks from the date of receipt of the packet before DPS website is updated. It also seems that they only update your status once/week during the initial phases. Once the background check has been completed then it moves pretty rapidly.
I think the initial 2 week wait is to get you riled up and, just when you're ready to call, bam! there it is.

My packet was delivered on Oct 31. I'll post the day they change the status online so we can add that data to the collective average of how long it takes.
:)

The wait is over! After waiting quite some time for my "mailed" license to arrive I finally have it in hand!
I can tell that they hold first time licenses in the mail room for some time though and here is how:
When I first applied for my license we had just moved here and were temporarily staying in my vintage 1978 Avion Travel Trailer (think airstream but nicer because its still aircraft aluminum but has solid wood interior cabinetry instead of pressboard and plastic) at a local RV park until we could legally move onto our property. I had listed my mailing address as the RV park when I first applied.
I decided to change my address on the DPS website 2-3 days after the CHL was mailed to me. However, after waiting two weeks for the license with the old address to arrive the license with our new address arrived first.
So it seems as if they hold the first printing license a week or two but mail out licenses for address changes much quicker.
Strange isn't it?
Anyways I have my license and the wait is over. I have been carrying on my property for several weeks so I eel very comfortable in public and actually feel strange without it. Now I can quit taking it off to go out!
Now I just need to get my wife a gun she can carry under the MPA.
See you guys in the normal forums!
