Open seat for next applicant

#1

Post by Packrat »

Applied on line on 9/1
CHL class on 9/4
Finger printed & photos 9/14
Mailed check list items 9/15
Found I missed putting my chl-100 in envelope 10/6 :eek6
Mailed in chl-100 on 10/8
Got confirmation of everything in order and passed checks 11/2
Manufacturing pending 11/3

Here's an open seat for the next applicant. One suggestion to offer, the tx dps web site does not update on a regular schedule so when checking your status online don't be surprise if you don't see progress. My mistake of not having my chl-100 cost me a few extra weeks so make sure you check that envelope and send everything on that check list.

Good luck to the next applicant!! :txflag:

Glad to hear you're plastic is in the mail!
Man, you waited a while though, practically two months? That's a bummer... :waiting:
I hope mine doesn't take that long.

If you count days from 10/8 - when the final docs were mailed it took less than 1 month!

that is pretty good

Yea, if I hadn't messed up it would have been less frustration. It took about 3 weeks from the time I sent my original checklist with items for a change in status on the dps web site. Original packet was sent certified mail. It took about 4 weeks from the time of mailing the chl-100 (regular mail) to see that everything completed and manufacturing of plastic pending. I'm assuming the background check proceeded without the chl-100 so I'm guessing about 6 weeks for my processing. Having a military background probably added some time to the background check.
One of the reps in Austin told me to expect 3 to 4 weeks just to get the paperwork entered due to they are swampped with applications. The background checks rely on response times from the various agencies being record requests have to be submitted on your behalf. There is the agreement for any agency to release any records to the dps, the online application has a checkbox and the old form has a piece of paper you sign and have notarized.
If you call dps in Austin expect about a 45min wait time on hold but they do play some cool music..

Hope this info helps anyone in the waiting room with the timeline of processing. :tiphat:

Goodluck to my fellow Texans!! :txflag:
