Baxter woke up last night vomiting.

He continued to vomit this morning even though I didn't feed him any breakfast. He also refused to leave his bed and go outside this morning to use the RR (he usually shows a lot of enthusiasm when given the opportunity to go outdoors).

I took him to the vet, and they told me he has pancreatitis. This is common in schnauzers, but rather serious. He will be in the hosptial at least until Friday. Please pray for him and for us. We love this dog very much.

There are few things in life like the love shared between a dog and their humans. I will remember Baxter and his in my prayers.

I am a dog lover...and know full well the bond between dog and the people they own.

Acute pancreatitis seems to rather common in schnauzers...but the fact that you took Baxter immediately to the Vet means he has an excellent chance of recovery.

When I was in college I had a Lab/Dalmatian mix that I loved with all my heart. I was having a BBQ party one fourth of July and unbeknowst to me everyone there was feeding my dog the fatty parts of Brisket that we had cooked.

Later in the day, I observed my dog wobbling down the back porch until he just fell over unconscious. A good friend of mine is a Veterinarian..and I called him right away. He left his 4th of July celebration to meet me at his practice.

I told him what we were doing (having BBQ and celebrating the 4th) and he asked right away if people had been feeding the dog. I told him I didn't know, but probably.

He took a blood sample and quickly spun it down in a centrifuge. You could actually see the lipids separate and form a 1/4" line in the vial. He looked at me and said "pancreatitis"! Basically "OD'd" on fat.

He gave him several shots and put him on an IV drip. In about 30 minutes he regained consciousness and vomited. He stayed overnight at the vet and was good as new the next afternoon. Vet said he could have easily died from the shock though.

We will pray that Baxter has as swift a recovery as my dog did. Our pets are just like our kids....so I understand your worry.

Venus - I hope for the best for your "kid."

I hope your dog makes it, In my opinion there is NOTHING worse than losing a dog.

Venus - we will be praying for Baxter's quick recovery and for peace of mind for you and Mars. I know our dogs are members of the family too. I am sure your house will feel lonely this week while Baxter is at the vet...if there is anything we can do just let us know.

Venus - you KNOW we will pray for little Baxter.

This is very timely, as I just took my little dachshund to the vet Monday for the same thing. This is her 3rd bout with pancreatitis, and the only time that we can't identify what it is that she ate to cause it. (Weiner dogs are like little tiny four legged Hoovers and will eat ANYTHING they can get in their mouths.) Last time was Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. She managed to snag the deep-fried turkey leftovers. How a 10 pound dog could eat a 12 pound turkey is a whole nother story, but like I said, weiner dogs are amazing. Not too bright, but still amazing.

So, back to Monday... spent all day at the vet with an IV and lots of TLC. $250 later and back home again. Feeling better, but probably not any smarter. You gotta love 'em. What else can you do?

So, yeah, you know you are in a "dog people" group and have all our support!

Pancreatitis is common in Schnauzers. So are bladder stones, so while you're getting him "tuned up", you might ask them to check.

Prayers on the way for Baxter. I am like Mark Twain - - - I like most dogs better than I like most people. I hope he gets better quickly.

I will definitely be praying for little Baxter and the family.

I just took my little Poodle to the vet today. She has been up there twice in the past week. She has some kind of infection in her right eye and a large knot behind her eye. I would appreciate if ya'll would pray for her also.
Her name is Agape.

I'll add Agape to my prayers. We had a poodle that was the best dog we've ever had. Sadly, she passed away last year.
