Ok guys:
looks like I have been smitten by the round gun bug. I have really been enjoying shooting my S&W 625 in ESR and I have some .38's that I have used over the years in SSR when I wanted to "play". For additional information:
What gun do you shoot in SSR?
What loads do you use, esp if you are reloading?

Any 4" K or L frame will work very well.
I sometimes use a 1 7/8" Model 15 for fun.
Loads: 158 gr RN Berry's Double Struck and 4.3 of Titegroup or 4.1 of Clays. 830fps
I have also been playing with 200 gr LRN and 2.9 of Clays. 640 fps
Hope to see ya at WHIDPA this Saturday.

Re: SSR: what are you shooting and your ammo
was thinking about getting either a S&W 686 or 686 ssr.
Have a Ruger security 6 and a Dan wesson 4 inch as well.
I like the idea about the 200 gr over clays but was wondering about "smoke". Know that shooting lead in my .45 is fine as long as the wind is blowing. Low light or still wind and it's shoot and move so you can see through the smoke. How is it working for you?
I am out of town again this weekend. Will be back in town for 1st Sat match in Jan.....(that's our match and party where we will be giving away eight (8) guns.

Yep, lube on lead bullets will smoke and it doesn't matter the caliber.solaritx wrote:was thinking about getting either a S&W 686 or 686 ssr.

As far as choosing an SSR gun from scratch, I suggest looking at the top level
shooters in major IDPA matches. You will find the "K" frame to be king.
Even though the "L" frame dampens more recoil in the mighty 38 cal at minor power factor, the "K" frame reloads with less "disaster factor" and reloading is where the match is won or lost among equal shooters.
The "K" frame has a smaller diameter cylinder so that when the charge holes are drilled they are closer together than on the "L" frame giving the bullet noses less area to impact and get hung up.
This is also why you see the top ESP guys using 45ACP and not 10MM/40. It's not because the 45ACP holes are bigger, it's because the 10MM/40 holes are farther apart.
Good luck and welcome to SSR.
