Houston area IDPA
Couple of quick questions:
Where/How do I become a IDPA member?
Where are some local matches around the Houston area(preferably outdoor)?

Re: Houston area IDPA
PSC, between Friendswood and Alvin, has one a month, either the third or fourth Saturday (fourth, I think).

Edit: yep, fourth Saturday, so next one is June 26.

Per IDPA rules, you can shoot your first match, without being an IDPA member, after that, you need to have a membership to do any more.
http://idpa.com/ click on "We are proud to offer the Online Membership Application!"

Re: Houston area IDPA
We shoot at Thunder Gun Range every Wed. night starting at 6:30 p.m. (as a new shooter, arrive by at least 6:00 to attend a new shooters orientation) and the 2nd Saturday of each month. As stated, a new shooter can shoot one time before being required to join IDPA, which can be done on-line.
They also shoot IDPa in Humble and in Friendswood, so it just depends upon what part of town you live in and how far you are willing to drive.

Thanks for all the info, exactly what I was looking for.

Re: Houston area IDPA
Definitely a good thread, just wish it was posted somewhere in a formal list or on a events calendar page. It took me a while to find actual dates and times for IDPA and 3-Gun here in Houston while searching the web since there's a lot of stale information out there on the web from 2004 on THR forum and 2008 in another similar forum.
I'm definitely interested in checking out the WHIDPA at Impact Zone since I live on the West side of Houston and I am interested in seeing a 3-gun competition and to get a chance to talk to some folks before I start making purchasing decisions on the rifle and shotgun and associated equipment. Time to get back into competitive shooting for me since I've just moved down here. I'll get in touch with Bob Wolff to to check out WHIDPA and get any recommendations on what to bring and what equipment to get. Would have liked to come up there today on Wednesday but I have to pick up a friend at the airport so I'll miss it this week.

Re: Houston area IDPA
Thunder and WHIDPA are both great weekly outdoor practice matches, with great people and are very open to new shooters.
If you don't mind indoor, Shiloh Tactical Shooters also runs practice matches every Thursday night beginning at 7:00PM at Shiloh Indoor Range. As a new shooter, try to arrive at 6:30 for orientation.
I heard rumors about an outdoor group somewhere in the Humble area on Tuesday nights, but I don't know whether they got off the ground or not. I personally haven't made one of their matches yet.
We have an abundance of IDPA shooting clubs in the Houston area, and I see a great deal of cross-pollination between the shooters in the various leagues. You can shoot IDPA style easily 3-4 days a week and nearly any weekend you want to in the area!
I'll try to pull my calendar entries and figure out how to get them up here into something useful.

All of 'em, would be my advice! Each group has a different group of individuals, and each match has a slightly different flavor. With the cross-pollination of members between the groups, you will always find at least *someone* you recognize!LongHairedRedneck wrote:Just finished my online application. And you'll always be among friends.
Look forward to seeing you on the range

Re: Houston area IDPA
Well, I bit the bullet and bought a my gear from Comp-Tac for getting into IDPA CDP competitions with my 1911. I got all Comp-Tac stuff including a belt holster that is IDPA approved, 2-magazine holder, 1-magazine holder for rear Barney Mag, and a kydex reinforced belt to hold it all. Hopefully I'll have all the gear sometimes next week and I'll make my way to either the Impact Zone on a Wednesday or Shiloh Shooting Range on Thursday and try my luck at IDPA. I'll pre-fill my IDPA membership now so that it'll be ready by the time I get everything also.
I saw a thread on here that mentioned that Memorial Oaks Shooting Range, American Shooting Centers, and Top Gun Range no longer have IDPA competitions. Is this still accurate as of now?

Re: Houston area IDPA
I know TopGun no longer has a club meeting at their range. Not sure about Memorial though.

I'm fairly certain that American doesn't have a club meeting either
