Cross Timbers IDPA training clinic Saturday April 25, 2009
Cross Timbers IDPA co-founder, Leonard Head, will be conducting an IDPA Training Class during our regular match time (10:00 am) at JCSSA http://www.jcssa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on Saturday, April 25. Normal match fees will apply. http://www.ctidpa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Leonard is an accomplished firearms instructor as well as an IDPA SO Instructor. This is a training opportunity you don't want to miss. To give Leonard an idea of the class size, please reply to this thread if you plan to attend.
It would help imensly if you have read the IDPA rule book before the clinic. It can be downloaded for free from http://www.idpa.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (see equipment rules especially)
I'll be there to help with the Safety Officer duties.
You will need to bring:
1) Eye and hearing protection (mandatory at all times while on the range)
2) pistol or revolver with strong side holster (no small of back, cross draw or shoulder holsters will be permitted for safety reasons)
2) At least 3 magazines or speedloaders and pouches for each (you can carry them in a pocket if that's all you've got)
3) 250rds of ammo should cover the day.
4) Concealment garment (vest, untucked shirt, jacket, etc).
Again, if you read the rule book, you'll be WAY ahead. It's a very easy read.
Safety is the TOP priority and we will do whatever it takes to keep it safe.
Hope to see you there!

Is this open for anyone or do you have to be an IDPA member. I have been interested in IDPA for a while but just haven't gotten around to doing anything yet and this may present the opportunity that I have been looking for.

I would like to attend and would be bringing a friend who is also a CHL'er if this is all right. This will be completely new to me but I sure would like to try it. Maybe I will discover a new Hobby.

Considering many Forum members use the "View new posts" option, is simply adding the word "Bump" to a location-specific event very useful?

I got an update from Leonard on Saturday. Please bring 250rds of ammo. Each shooter will be able to run through the stages multiple times. I'm looking forward to seeing y'all there!

How long does this typically last? Normally we wouldn't have any time constraints and we are going to attend for as long as we can, but we have a boyscout event that starts about 6:00PM. I anticipate that we will have to head out sometime between 3:00 and 4:00 if shooting is still going on.

I would like to take the time to thank Gary for the fantastic time out at JCSSA today. The IDPA shoot went very well and I had a ton of fun. I would like to say that if Cross Timbers and Gary ever offer this up again that you should take full advantage of the experience. I met some really nice folks that are part of Cross Timbers today and they were very patient with the me since I was completely new to IDPA. They were very understanding and were more than willing to share their knowledge with the new shooters.
I would also like to say thanks to Leonard Head for all the training that he provided, he went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. I learned a few new techniques that I hope will improve my overall shooting.
I can not say enough about these guys. They were awesome and a pleasure to be around. A great learning experiance that I would highly recommend to everyone.

Thank you for the kind words. Everyone did a great job today and hopefully you'll all come back and shoot a real match with CTIDPA soon.

some videos from the New Shooter Clinic are up.

There are more, it's just taking me a while to get through them all. Check every couple of days or so for new additions.
