Houston IDPA
Are there any IDPA groups in Houston that shoot closer into town than the Impact Zone?
I found some old forums posts that implied there were events at Top Gun and Memorial for a while, but I can't find any info as to whether that is still the case.

It depends on what side of Houston you are interested in. There is PSC to the south and Thunder to the north.

I'm on the west side, but inside the beltway, dead center between 10 and 59 (Westchase). I was hoping maybe something was still going on at Top Gun or Memorial, or even American Shooting Center, but it looks like the answer is "no."CompVest wrote:It depends on what side of Houston you are interested in. Shiloh has an IDPA match on Thursday nights....
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.
Re: Houston IDPA
I was trying to browse the Shiloh Tactical web site but it seems sort of broken and the IDPA link on the main Shiloh Range site doesn't seem to do anything either.Jeremae wrote:Shiloh has an IDPA match on Thursday nights....
Maybe I'll try to drive out there on a weekend soon and see how long it actually takes to get there. Google says it'll be an hour in traffic so I'm not sure I can swing it during the week because of work.
Thanks for the info.

Hop on the beltway then off at 249 and your there. I would say once on beltway 20min, unless traffic is at a standstill.

Re: Houston IDPA
West Houston IDPA did shoot at American Shooting Centers for several years. Then the management decided that they did not believe that it was worth their time to have a IDPA club shooting there weekly. We brought in 40-50 shooters weekly but at that time, they said that it was not worth it and they could make that "selling a shotgun or two". That was the reason WHIDPA went to IMPACT ZONE.
Gary Burris club (Tactical Shooters) shot at Memorial Oaks (I-10 and Gessner area) when it belonged to the old management and did so for years. It was placed under new management and they got Gary back and we had a great bunch of shooters there going every Tue night. Couple of years ago, 360 tactical bought into the management. We had a regular group of shooters coming, bringing in regular shooters and the same guys buying guns and other stuff. One Tue night, 360 basically kicked Gary and the group off the range and all but said, "don't let the door hit you on the way out". I have not stepped foot back in that range to this day.
Top gun had a IDPA like group several years ago, then it turned into a "tactical training" group basically run by our own Greg Garrett of Comp-Tac fame. Don't know the whole story there, but that group is gone as well. My understanding was that it was Top Gun and not the club shooting there that terminated the participation.
59 gun range had a group going for years one week night as well. Lack of interest and participation and Dale Hunnicutt and that group closed down as well this last year.
One other range on the north side had a IDPA club, but it had a fire and burned down. To my knowledge, it has not been rebuilt.
and as they say........and that is the rest of the story. 3 ranges felt that they could do better without an IDPA or IDPA like club shooting with them on a regular basis. Instead of embracing those that regularly supported them with time and money, they felt that they did not need us. One place burned down, and one just died.
I support those ranges that do participate with IDPA with my time and money.

Good summary, solaritx. It is sad when seen summed up like that the number of clubs that have come and gone. I too don't understand the mentality of some of the range owners!

Garry, thanks for the information.
I'm hoping in the next couple of months after work calms down a little bit that I'll be able to go check out one of the remaining groups. It looks like a ton of fun.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this!
The Shiloh Tactical Shooters are shooting IDPA matches every Thursday night at Shiloh Indoor Shooting Range. Registration is 6:30pm and hammer down at 7:00pm. We do have a new website: http://www.shilohidpa.com
We just had our first classifier match yesterday at the Impact Zone Range. We had 15 shooters including Mr. Gregg Garrett.

Sportsman's Outlet in Humble is open again and their IDPA group has a match every Tuesday starting at 6:30pm. Great range and fun group to shoot with.solaritx wrote:One other range on the north side had a IDPA club, but it had a fire and burned down. To my knowledge, it has not been rebuilt.
