ok,
I shoot XD Sub.
so I shoot Action Pistol and Top Dog (Think Three gun shoot but pistol only) and every once in a while someone will comment on "how they don't understand how I can shoot with such a short sight picture. Am I the only one out there using a sub (my daily carry) to shoot action pistol or IDPA.. or for fun top dog?
OMG they tease me!!

I shoot my Sub compact in BUG matches, (once or twice a year). It is harder to shoot with SC. Even with my Compact I feel that those competitors shooting pistols with 4", 5", 6" barrels do shoot better.Gunner21 wrote:ok,

shot Action Pistol today. I sot a 333.28. My score is getting lower. Last Top Dog I shot at a 3gun (same strings as AR and Pistol) my score was 387.54, Top Dog before that was 426.23. Ive only shot one other Action pistol match last October, I'll have to look up my score. Score aside. It was fun as hell and I can see myself giving up other cost worthy pursuits in order to shoot more.

I shot a Glock 19 in IDPA for about a year. It's not as small as your sub-compact, but it was still probably the smallest gun used in most of the matches. I don't recall anyone ever giving me a hard time about it.

Re: OMG they tease me!!
The shorter the sight radius, the more critical it is. Just a matter of fact.
That said, it's the indian and not the bow that matters. One of our shooters at West Houston IDPA (and an officer of the club) is Mel. He shoots at the expert level and is VERY competative with his subcompact glock. It is his carry gun, shot from an IWB holster was well. He has good matches, exceptional matches, and a few matches that are not up to his normal performance, but it is never the gun. I'd have him beside me in a fight any day.
Shoot what you want, kick butt and have fun.

(besides, if they tease to much, either talk about their mother or tell everyone within hearing distance that they wear pink underwear)

That explains that comment yesterday at Thunder...:)solaritx wrote:

Just kidding around with ya, Garry.
We also have one of the shooters at Shiloh who actually shoots his subcompact guns better than his full-size competition rigs. It's indeed the Indian and not the bow.
And yes, I usually shoot my carry gun at competitions--but it's not a subcompact--I carry a commander-size 1911). I don't do very well in the matches I shoot (not the gun), but I have a good time, and I learn a lot from the guys (and gals) that are indeed experts, masters, professionals, etc. in the sport.
At the last BUG match I shot, I was probably the only one there who put the BUG away at the end of the match and armed up with a bigger gun...but that's just me.
And I strongly believe in training and using the gun you carry...I don't discount a competition rig, but shoot that pocket heater every chance you get.

Re: OMG they tease me!!
I shoot "Steel Challenge" and have done it with just about every pistol/revolver I have, (sub compacts included). I am a firm believer in using your carry guns in these games. Me personaly, I prefer to advance/practice with something I would carry rather than a race gun with optics and light loads. Don't get me wrong, those guns are fun I just prefer to maintain/improve muscle memory with my carry guns.
As far as the teasing, that is half the fun of it. The guys always tell me they are afraid I am going to shoot my finger tip off.

Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.
