weak hand shooting question

Hi All - Been thinking of trying my hand at IDPA lately. I'm looking more for personal improvement than comparing myself to others at this point.
Only thing I've been hesitant on is how much weak side shooting is common in IDPA setups?
I'm not entirely positive how well I would do weak side shooting. I broke a growth plate when I was 10 and it stunted my trigger finger and thumb on my weak hand which makes shooting weak side a little hard to do for me. Not impossible but definitely hard. Just curious how much it might effect being able to do the different COF that are common to the matches.

Most of us are far less proficient with the weak hand, but you won't get better by not practicing. With a little practice and sound fundamentals, you may be surprised at how well you actually CAN do shooting weak hand.
Your proficiency doesn't matter as long as you are safe. You will improve with practice, and improvement is a huge aspect of competitive shooting, and there is a LOT of room for improvement in all manner of shooting tasks. Weak hand is but one of them.
Don't worry about it. Be safe, have fun, and run what ya' brung.

just go and shoot IDPA. When a scenario comes up that you are not sure of.....ask people. Everyone is more than willing to help.
"what's the best way to shoot weak hand?"
"what's the best way to shoot that swinger?"
"what's the best way to shoot that damn texas star?" <G>
IDPA shooters are more than willing to help and give advice. Go, ask, learn, get better, have fun, shoot safe. You will not regret it. If you come out to the WHIDPA shoots, feel free to ask for me.

At the recent TX State match we had one stage out of ten that included weak hand shooting. On Monday nights at The Arms Room, we include weak hand shooting every once and a while on one stage at the most. Even the PSC monthly match includes very little weak hand shooting once in a while. So I wouldn't worry yourself about having a bunch of weak hand shooting in a match.
Beyond that, if you're uncomfortable shooting weak hand and don't care about your score, don't shoot weak hand. It's only a 3 second procedural error. So don't worry about it and come out to a match and have some fun.

Thanks for the responses all. Exactly what I was looking for. Definitely doesn't deter me from playing just wanted to get a feel for what I might expect to see.
Hoping I can make a match soon. Maybe cross timbers which meets very close by. Might have to wait until after my daughter's soccer is over since practice conflicts with the weekly matches.
Looking forward to it.
