Austin Get together for IDPA Sunday, Aug 26 ...FINALLY!!!

#1

Post by CWOOD »

Assuming the monsoon season really does end eventually...

For those who would like to try it again, or if anyone would just like to shoot an IDPA match, I am going to try to make both of Texas Tactical IDPA matches in August. They will be on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 26th.

Remember, the IDPA matches usually have a voluntary and complimentary shotgun side match following the pistol shootin'.

I am also going to try to make the Carbine match on Saturday the 4th.

The weather and other factors have caused me to miss so many matches lately that I am starting to experience withdrawal symptoms. I find them great for stress relief but lately it has gotten to the point that even my wife says I NEED to go shoot something....before I go shoot something. ;-)

So who wants to try again?

I am up for either of the two dates. I won't be able to make the Aug 4th shoot though, my son has a race car date then. He is going to test drive some quarter midgets up in Austin.

I would love to. But already have plans for the weekend of the 18th. And I know that my boss wont let me off 2 sundays in a row. Maybe next time I will be able to join in on the fun.

I vote plan for the 18th and use the 26th as a backup.

I'm going to plan to make both dates.

That sounds like a winning plan to me. Try for the 18th and hope the rain is done by then, with the 26th as a rain date.

Either day is fine for me.

How does the Carbine match work? Is it possible to participate with a Mosin-Nagant M44?

If you folks want this on the TexasCHLforum Event Calendar, be sure to post something in it's request thread. I can't be sure if or when something goes form the planning stage to confirmed to the point people want it listed without a specific request to include it.

A carbine match is run just like an IDPA match with a couple of exceptions. Obviously, concealment is not an issue. The minimum round count for a stage could exceed 18 and there is occasionally a few longer shots. Otherwise it run similarly.

A standard IDPA target is use and the same scoring system. The use of cover is still required when available. There are still multiple targets, multiple hits on targets, movement, etc. Sometimes there are transitions from handgun to long gun or long gun to handgun, so bring your handgun.

As far as using the M44, no problem providing you can run it rapidly, just plan on being slower than the rest. Most of the carbines are AR platforms...some very tricked out. There are some AK's, my Ruger Mini-14, an occasional SKS, Marlin Camp Carbines, and even the odd lever action. The manual action long guns are fairly rare but nothing says you cannot use them. With a bolt action rifle, I would suggest you consider how fast you can work the action effectively and how fast your reloads are. If you have truly practiced these actions and can do them rapidly, you shouldn't hold up the match too much. Just remember, there will be up to 50+/- folks waiting on you, so keep that in mind.

Thanks, Charles. As it approaches we will keep that in mind.

With NcongruNt and me that makes four for the 18th with the 26 th as a backup. Looks like we have a plan. I'll change the thread title and ask Charles to put us on the event Calender.

WHOOOHOOO! Dates that work for me! Now a few questions, bird shot for the shotguns? M1 Garand for the carbine? Kel-Tec SUB2000 in 9mm for carbine? How many rounds for pistol/shotgun/carbine?

I appreciate the enthusiasm.

The shotgun sidematches after the regular IDPA matches are birdshot only. We ususally just have one stage set up with a round count of 12-15 and we load up to 6 or 7 in the guns depending on what most have available as gun capicity. We often run the stage 2 or 3 times and count the best score. Divisions of Competition are Manual, Auto and Open. Open Division permits optics, compensators and magazine fed weapons with no limit on starting capacity.

For the Carbine Matches bring the M1, KelTec or both. The competition is divided into divisions as follows: Iron Sights, Optics, Battle Rifle (M1 here)(anything .30 Cal or over), Limited (10 round capacity or less), Junior (shooters under 18 years old who may use .22) and Class III. Class III is not available at this range per range rules. You could shoot the M1 in Battle Rifle and the Keltec according to its sight system.

Minimum round counts are usually around 100 for both the IDPA matches and the Carbine matches. More is permitted and often needed so bring 150 to be sure. There are usually 5 stages.

For more and more specific info about match descriptions, schedules, range location, gear requirements, etc., go to the Texas Tactical website at:

http://texastactical.net

Does this make 5? Hope to see you. Have you shot IDPA before?

Never shot in any defensive competitions unless you count those deadly orange dirt birds that are always trying to sneak up from behind

Just a reminder that Texas Tactical is having a Carbine Match tomorrow, Sat., 8-4-07. If anyone is interestd you can go to the official announcement under the Competition Forum on this site.

I'll be there. I'll probably be the only one with a Ruger Mini-14.(black syn./stainless).

Hope to meet some new friends.

Everyone still thinking about the 18th and 26th, I hope.

Carl
