I am wanting to get start into the IPDA. Can you please shoot , me into the correct direction on learning the rules and some web sites showing the way to shoot at the matches. I have never done this type of shooting before. I do know tha it counts on your shot placement, not your speed. I do thank you for your time in this matter.

The best way to learn how to shoot the scenarios is to come shoot some scenarios. The bottom line idea is to test your skills, learning what is working for you and what is not. Don't worry about not having done this type of shooting before, everyone was in that position at one time.

PSC-IDPA has matches on the 4th Saturday of each month. PSC is located in Friendswood. You can get a map at the PSC website, http://www.psc-range.com . You can also go to cottonfamily.com, and use the PSC-IDPA link to get more information.

Find a club in your area and sign up. You'll learn a lot here but so much more in person.

calvinbr, Don't spend too much time researching IDPA or watching matches. Both will just confuse you and you'll forget it all when the buzzer goes off. Come on out to a match, get a safety briefing and stay close to the experienced shooters. You'll do just fine.

Take Jbirds up on his offer to come up the Thunder, I promise you will have a great time.

+1 on SRVA's response... Go to a match w/ the intention of "watching" but make sure you take your pistol, belt, holster, 3 mags, mag pouches, 150 rounds of ammo, sun screen, water, ear&eye protection...

Now when you get there to "watch" go to the sign up spot & tell the person taking the money that you have never shot IDPA before... hand him a $20.00 get a score sheet & gear up.

They may/may not have a new-shooters meeting so just let the SO (safety officer) of the squad you are on that you are a new shooter & they will make sure you are not first to shoot the stage!

You will pretty much be able to tell the guys/gals that have been shooting for a while so find one or two & ask questions.

What ever you do... don't forget your gun, ammo, etc!

Shooting starts about 9:30

About 120 minimum round count, eye and ear protection required. Gun, holster, a minimum of two magazines (three for .45 shooters) but more mags the better (4-5 is about perfect)
