Need holster help just got my CHL and wife trouble

#1

Post by Isimanica »

I just got my CHL in the mail yesterday. Actually alot faster than any one in my class and most of my friends who have done it. ONLY 5 weeks! It was a real shocker. But now I need help finding a holster for my two pistols. I have a Star PD and a Taurus PT145. I would prefer to get one that is easy to hide under my shirt when I am carrying. Also maybe one that fits both (they are roughly the same Dimensions).

Also I go through this class and fork over all the dough to get a CHL and now my wife doesn't want me too carry?? :???: I don't know how to try and keep the peace and get it across that is why you go through and get the darn thing. I understand that where I work I can not take it on the property or keep it in my car there but I can use the walk if I park out side the property. But that I would carry where it is legal to carry. I just don't see the coming month as a good one for me. What is the best way to get the message across?

I have one of these for my Bersa T380 and Beretta Tomcat WRB Holster. I like them because they are lightweight and sturdy and easily concealable. They are handmade in a small town near where I live, and I like supporting a local merchant. They carry a 100% satisfaction guarantee and Lifetime warranty.

About your wife, give her some time to get used to the idea. If she's willing to talk about it, try to understand her reservations. Thinking about carrying a gun is one thing, but DOING it is a completely different concept - with a whole different set of issues that can raise concerns! Invite her to join here and read some of the stories and visit some of the women here.

Does she watch the news? It can certainly put you in a bad mood but her being aware of some of the things that go on every day - either from watching the news or from stories talked about on this site - should help understand why you want to carry.

Will she go shooting with you? If she knows that safety if your #1 priority, she'll probably worry less. Just a couple of thoughts.

Have her check out:

I don't know how your wife is, but the "trick" with mine is somehow get her to think things I want are her ideas. (She pulls the same trick on me and it works great!)

My wife is mostly gun agnostic, leaning toward pro gun. I'd have a nice, non-confrontational talk with your wife, and try and find out what her fears are. Once you know what her fears really are, you can nip 'em in the bud.

The biggest hurdle was getting HER to realize the intracies of everything. "That sign says no guns, you better go put yours away!" and the like.

The above article was posted on another thread (General CHL discussion). Although the attack occurs in a private home, it reveals the cruelty around us.

This reminds me of a joke about 3 guys standing around. The first two were bragging about how much control they had over their wives and turned to the 3rd guy for comments.

He said, "Well, just this morning I had my wife coming to me on her hands and knees ... she was saying "GET OUT FROM UNDER THAT BED AND FIGHT LIKE A MAN!".

My wife shocked the crud out of me a couple of weeks ago. I have been talking about getting a chl for several months. I did the class and sent in the paperwork the beginning of July. Through all of that my spousal unit said nothing. One night at the dinner table she pops off with "I'm not comfortable with you carrying a gun". After my shock wore off I asked her why. Her concern was that someone could take it away from me and shoot me with it.

Key thing here.....it gets it's own paragraph......it doesn't matter how ridiculous it sounds to me......it's her fear and it's very real to her....

I thanked her for being worried about me and then explained why it would be unlikely for what she is afraid of to happen. She felt a lot better after that.

How we conduct ourselves defines us. At the end of the day we answer to ourselves. At the end of our days we answer to God.

Welcome to the forum Isimanica. I know that you will find a lot of info in here to help with the holster. Having had a Taurus PT145 before, I can tell you that it should fit in a holster made for a Glock 22. I used an Uncle Mikes Level 3 duty holster for a Glock 22 with my PT145 when I carried it as a Security Officer. So you might check out other holsters for a Glock and see if it fits. As I know that there are not many made for the PT145.
Now with your wife, I am having the same problems. Check out this topic, http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... php?t=8218 It might help.

Hanging around here could make a person more paranoid... BUT IN TRUTH, it's just making ME more informed. I could have easily fallen into the "sheeple" category once upon a time - just minding my own business and expecting everyone else to do the same.

my wife is a native New Yorker city girl, but she has been more than fair in trying to see things from my perspective. Those who have hung around here much can understand that this might not so easy. :bigmouth
When I went to buy my first handgun, to pursue my CHL, and to carry out into the world she would ask "Do you really have to?" My response has been; "Its not that I have a need to, Its not that think I'm in danger, Its not that I believe that I will ever need to use it. It is important that I carry simply because I can! For some reason she understands that. With me its all about the Cotton Stand

In the mean time she has learned to shoot, and always has a handgun handy around the house even if she doesn't carry when she steps out.
