I am not at all familiar with maritime law, but i would hazard a guess that it would depend on if you went out far enough to be in international waters.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Wouldn't it be legal in waters that weren't under any country's jurisdiction? And it is obviously legal in Texas waters... so I would think you are okay.

I am not a maritime law expert nor do I play one on TV and I did not stay at a holiday inn express last night.

I'm not aware of any law that would forbid carrying a handgun on a boat that is launching from and returning to Texas.

The captain of the boat might object.

Don't go anywhere near Mexico with a firearm or ammunition.

in Texas waters you're ok, If I remember correctly they extend out 25 miles, then you are in Federal waters, and not subject to any state law. I doubt you'd be going for enough East to run into LA water.
