Carry or not carry Sept. 1st while waiting for CHL

Anyone can have a weapon in their vehicle Sept 1st.
I bet alot of the people waiting for their CHL will want to have a weapon in their vehicle.
I would like to hear from them as of what they are going to do.

I personally will not. I don't want to jeopardize my not getting my CHL.

Also would like to here from CHL holders what they think.

I don't see how doing something that is completely legal could jeopardize getting your CHL.

Even if you think, as some do, that certain police offficers will attempt to enforce the old law, how often are you searched by the police? I haven't been searched in more than 30 years. I haven't been stopped for a traffic offense in more than 25.

Might be a good time to re-hash (or not) about the issue of consenting to a search of your vehicle...

After Monday, I'm not so sure there will be a rash of requests to search anything on traffic stops...I stand to be corrected, but since none of my Law Enforcement contacts (friends) have said anything about being given instruction to "bust the chops" of the public on this issue...They know I'd be interested to know if there was a push to do this...

I don't foresee a problem...

So where do you draw the line? A ghostbusters gun with the slash thru it, or an obvious attempt to comply with 30.06 (wording all there, but letters 6/8 inch), etc?

It all comes down to what you are willing to risk in the name of legal if you know you will be hassled and potentially arrested and charged.

Although it may be perfectly within the law to do something, and you will eventually win in court, are you willing to go through the hassle of the arrest, booking, seizure of your weapon, etc. pending the litigation and clearing of your status. If you have the time, money and forthwith to challenge and fight it, then go for it (30.06 example.)

As for the carry in vehicle after 11/1, that is really just a clarification of the "traveling" law that is already actually in place. This should (hopefully) keep the LEO's and prosecutors from pushing the issue if you are not doing anything illegal.

Well the law IS pretty clear on what the sign will say and the size shape and contrasting color issues...

Any other sign is non-applicable in this state...

I do like to drive fast (not crazy but a 5-10mph over) and have been stopped a lot. I usually get let go (be polite) and in 20 years have never been searched. Even 15 years ago before chl and such I had told offficers yes there was a gun in the car and they never took it or seemed to care too much. Bottom line is they really dont search that often and probably need a good reason to so dont provide one.

We really are in bad shape when you are afraid to just obey the law. Carrying concealed in a car after September 1 is legal. I am not for sure why we would walk around being afraid to be law abiding citizens.

Well Carl, seems to me like its been legal to do what some can do this weekend for most of two years now...

We have some cowboy DA's around the state that made a good point about why they were going to continue to bust the chops of people anyway, and that's what has a few folks still gun-shy (pardon the pun)...

I'm all for following the law...But I don't have to worry about this one in my case...

If these DA's understood the intent of the law in 2005 (and they know they do)...And openly noted the flaw in the law at the time, but said they would honor the intent of the law and get it fixed this session, we wouldn't be having this conversation now, right???

We are expected to honor the intent of the law in how flagrantly 30.06 is posted, yet we can't get the enforcers to do the same...
