Should I wait?

Post by Buhay_XD »

I'm in the process of becoming a citizen. I was wondering if I should hold off on getting my CHL. Will I have to "update it" when I do become a citizen? Will it also be easier for me to get it because I am a citizen?

Thanks in advance to whatever help and advice y'all can give.

I can't think of any reason to hold off, Only advice I have is to go for it, but don't use your CHL as an ID to the state department. I once attempted to use a firearms ID card to apply for a passport. I got less than satisfactory results

Go ahead and get it. It took me a few more weeks than my wife to get the license, but no real snags at all. I don't believe you have to "update" it in any way once you're a citizen, just provide proof of naturalization when you renew in 5 years.

I'm assuming your resident status allows you to get a CHL now (like youre permanant resident alien or whatever it's called)

if that's the case, then yeah, don't wait.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies. Now does anyone know where I can take the class on a Wednesday and Thursday? I have a weird schedule. I live in Gainesville, but I'd be willing to go as far as Lewisville or even Carrolton.

send an email to these guys and let them know what you are looking for.

Paul was able to do a weekday renewal class for me when I contacted him. You might have to wait a few weeks until they locate enough others needing a weekday class.

Both of the instructors are activite on this board.
