Got my package back with missing items to correct. How long will this delay my permit? Does the clock reset to zero?

I got my application back about a week and a half ago because I forgot to sign one of the papers. I talked to a lady on the phone and she told me that once they receive the completed packet, the 60 day clock begins. It's been about 10 days, and my online status still says "Packet Incomplete". Hopefully it'll change soon to "Processing Application".

If you look at the law, DPS has in essence 90 days from the date they receive your "completed application" to issue, deny, or state why they need more time.

Must be my lucky day. I just checked the website, and I'm officially upgraded to "Processing Application". My marginally allright day just got a lot better. But now the real wait begins...

If this is your first CHL, then as txinvestigator said, DPS has up 90 days to process your application, depending upon when they send it to their designee. This is not true for renewals. The difference is cause by a drafting error. DPS has always taken the position that they only have 60 days for initial CHL's and I appreciate the fact that they are honoring the intent of the law and are not taking advantage of a glitch in drafting.

While the clock doesn't officially start until DPS has a complete application, they usually will process it while you are gathering the additional information, but this depends on what and how much is missing. There can be so much missing that they don't have anything to work with.

The only thing missing was the notary seal on the paperwork. I got it notarized and sent it right back. I'm hoping they can move things along without taking the full 60 days.
