Given my screwy schedule and the fact that I'm usually the one driving, I tend to forego the one drink more often than not. If I can trust myself to guide a car with around a quarter million foot-pounds of impact energy available, a few hundred from a pistol doesn't strike me as too much responsibility.

Although my drinks are few and far between, most people can handle just 1 with little effect. There are exceptions to this and you would have to know your limitations

Nope, but I never go out to drink alone. We always have a designated drinker, and a designated shooter, uh I mean DRIVER.

With the exception of the date (December 1979), I'm with Longtooth.

However, my better half will occasionally have a single drink with dinner, if she's really hurting (like yesterday after walking around the starboard half of Reliant Center Hall A). After that one drink, that relaxes her just enough to take the edge of the pain, she won't drive, but we haven't discussed disarming as yet.

Obviously, she wouldn't have the drink if I weren't with her ('cause who would drive her home). Since my CHL arrived in last Friday's mail, I can handle the designated shooter (thanks for that word picture, llw ) duty, as well as designated driver.

Main reason I asked the question is that I'll be going out of town and will be going out for dinner, dont like the idea of leaving the gun in the motel and if I'm taking it in my car I may as well wear it. Limiting myself to one drink but I see by the voting I'll probably refrain from having a drink. After all one less drink wont kill me but having no weapon could.

The law defines intoxication and makes carrying while intoxicated a crime. But, one drink into a 185-lb man gives him a BAL of about .03.

ANY detectable BAL will result in SOME impairment. You may not look, act or smell drunk, but there will be some effect. You know how a glass of wine with a meal will affect you; if you'd give yourself to anyone after one drink, don't carry if you're gonna drink and vice versa. If you, like me, regard a 6-pack of beer as a warm-up for some real drinking, have a glass of wine, have a good meal, and don't give it a second thought.
