New CHL holder

#1

Post by USCGELECTROTECH »

I got my "plastic" in the mail about a week ago :thumbs2: . Did the Wally tour with my G17C and fobus OWB evolution holster and a jacket, felt weird but ok. I have carried lots of guns in the USCG :patriot: but the civilian world is much different. Im looking for a gun belt, and thinking about getting a MTAC for IWB carry. Any suggetions? I'm 6ft tall and about 265lbs. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the "club"! :txflag:

Regarding holsters, I have the MTAC holster for both my M9 and XD 45 and am very satisfied with the fit, adjustability, and ease in which I am able to draw. (I'm 6'2", 170 lbs., by the way). Good luck in your search!

Welcome aboard and thanks for your service :patriot:

I am sure that someone will come along with a holster recommendation for you soon.

Here is the review I did on the MTAC if it helps. I still wear this holster every day. Still as good as the day I got it. Probly even better now that its broke in.

Wildscar, thanks for a great review. I am waiting on my IRS check and then placing my order. Do you carry your MTAC on a "normal", or do you have a gun belt?

I have a regular belt that I have had for awhile from Walmart. I do not have the funds to get a real one yet. However the holster and pistol stay where I put them so that all that counts.

Do gun belts really make that big of a difference? How does a gun belt differ from a "regular" belt besides having a gun and holster attached to it?

Yes, they make a huge difference, especially for a heavier gun. They are generally thicker and much stiffer than regular belts, built to carry the weight of a gun and spare magazines, etc.

:iagree:

It makes a huge difference IMO. It makes carrying much more comfortable.

When I carry my G17C in my fobus OWB it leans out because I have a regular belt. I still have not made the desition weather to go with a double leather belt or a kydex renforced one.

My belt is a Beltman http://www.thebeltman.net.

I have been very happy with it. I usually carry either a G19 or G30 in a comptac C-Tac IWB, but occasionally a S&W 686 revolver in a high ride OWB holster or a full size 1911 OWB. In addition I most of the time have an extra mag in kydex pouch and a cell phone on the belt. These belts can be had with an internal stiffener, but I can't imagine what kind of gun would warrant the need for one (Desert Eagle 50 maybe?).

I'm glad to see someone else chose a g17c for carry :-)

As for a belt, I will be using a heavy gatorskin belt my lovely bride bought me
at Cavenders.

Yeah I'm used to carrying a full size pistol from being in the service, so I'll stick with either a full size when I can get away with it or the mid size.

I have one of these as well. I got the bullhide with a stiffener. I carry a Hi-Power plus two extra mags (all OWB) on mine. I think the stiffener makes a difference in places where you have to drop your pants (like the bathroom). I've found that the belt retains its shape and stiffness even when unbuckled, and keeps everything upright when not around your waist. I'm more than satisfied with mine. :thumbs2:
