Am I Considered a New Applicant?

#1

Post by mt_goodrich »

I have emailed the CHL folks for the State of Texas, but wanted to check if anyone had a similar situation.

I originally obtained my CHL license in January 2002.

It was up for renewal in January 2007; however, due to being out of the state for a long term work assignment, I was not able to renew in time. I had scheduled a course before the deadline in November 2006. I sent the State of Texas (via my credit card), the required $70.00 renewal fee and received a renewal packet back. However, as mentioned, I was not able to attend due to my working out of state.

Almost two years have past and I am now ready to renew my CHL. I tried to go the the Texas CHL website to apply and the site will not let me. It states: Ineligible to apply - Renewal application in progress.

Hopefully I will hear back from the Texas CHL folks soon. I would like to take the training course as soon as possible while I am able. With my work schedule, I don't want to put this any longer than I have.

sounds like a new app to me. I think you only have 2 years to get applied after a class, so you're probably beyond that as well. This is just my "I don't know much more than I've read" opinion....

You can apply as a renewal up to one year after expiration. After that, you have to apply as a new licensee meaning the $140 fee (unless a reduced rate applies) and you have to take the 10hr course. The renewal application must be in DPS office no later than the 365th day after expiration.
