The driver's license comparison is interesting. It came to me many years ago that our children watch us drive and we make it look easy. They grow up never realizing the thought processes that go through our minds as we drive. If you've ever gone through the "Smith System" of driving, where you verbalize everything you are thinking and considering as you drive, it was probably enlightening to you. So when our kids start to drive, they imitate us and do all the things they saw us do while we are driving but tend to not do the things they never realized was going on in our minds as we did so.
With the proliferation of cop shows on TV and in the movies we see many scenarios presented. Hardly any are good teaching tools as there are so many ridiculous situations. If you went by those, you would give up the cover of a concrete wall to run get behind an overturned sofa or you might take cover beside a doorway with only two layers of 1/2" drywall for protection. How many people would apply what they've seen on TV and in the movies to a real life situation. I know a guy who did did some technical adviser work for Walker, Texas Ranger but only advised on matters pertaining to electrical wiring and apparatus. There were things the director wanted to do that could not really happen with poles, wires and transformers but the director would often overrule the TA. He told me that they had ex-LEO's as TA's for the gunfight scenes but they got overruled a lot also for "dramatic effect" or "camera positioning".
Are people really that naive?

While TV and the Movies take huge liberties. I watch them to be entertained. I hate reality TV, but I'll watch Shoot 'em up and Die hard all night long because they are fun. I know a single shot from a 9mm won't cause a car to explode with a huge firebal.l. Its funninemm wrote: With the proliferation of cop shows on TV and in the movies we see many scenarios presented. Sadly, many people do think this way. It took several hours of demonstration and physics explanation to convince an anti I am close to that a person does not fly back several feet in the air when shot by a high power assault handgun (1911).Liberty wrote: While TV and the Movies take huge liberties. This is what I did and it is making a difference. I usually am not using my carry weapon, but the only difference is the barrel length.
