private business sign

#1

Post by Muddauber »

Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I did a search and did not find it.
I am trying to remember if a private business such as a car dealership has to post a 30.06 sign or can it be any sign that says no guns allowed. I could not remember what the law says when on a private business. Thank You. :txflag:

They have to post a 30.06...all others are 'walk on by' signs.

Thank You. I cannot help but wonder why it is some businesses do not make sure they are in compliance with the law. :txflag:

Ignorance and Laziness.
Their goal by posting these signs is not to actually prevent guns.
If they wanted to do that, they'd install metal detectors... but that takes time and money. A sign costs $2.

Rather, it is to make some people 'feel good'
"Hey look mommy! Theyre keeping the bad guys out with a 'No Guns' Sign!"
"Yes Johnny, STORE really cares about our safety!"

However, in this situation, it works out better for us that they are! We get to carry anyways :thumbs2:

There is no requirement what so ever for the car dealership to post any "no guns" sign at all. However, IF the dealership wants to put up a no guns sign to attempt to keep guns out of their dealership/lot, and have that sign legally enforcible they MUST put up the 30.06 sign with specific language, size, lettering, etc.

Some businesses post non-compliant signs on purpose as a decoy. Some post signs because they came from HQ in the same box as the "no smoking," "ladies room" "men's room" and menu signs.

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: ...Unless they're a business that is working on government owned or leased property, in which case 30.06(e) comes in effect that makes a 30.06 sign, even if properly posted, unenforceable.

If a business wants to keep out CHL's, they need a 30.06 sign.
If they want to pacify their anti-gun customers by making it LOOK LIKE they keep out CHL's, but deep down want to let CHL's in, they can post something else. :thewave
Just my thoughts.
