Can I laminate my CHL?

#1

Post by GatoNegro »

Folks,

My CHL came in, and it looks like it will fade away quick. Can I laminate it? I am in doubt because it has a raised DOB and it also has a hologram.

has anybody laminated it?
anybody's has faded away?

Thanks,

IMO, DO NOT not laminate your CHL. It may make the magnetic strip unreadable. The hologram and raised DOB shows that the CHL is authentic and not a scanned or printed copy. I can't imagine why it would fade, but if it does contact DPS and get a replacement.

:iagree: completely with Wild Bill, but IMO it already IS laminated, with a very thin laminate. But that's my opinion, born of VERY close examination.

Mine has a very, very rough texture, it doesn't look laminated.

I was a little let down when I saw mine for the first time.
I guess I was expecting it to be the same quality as a DL.

Not a big deal though. It does the trick.

The key thing here is it shouldn't be seeing much daylight tucked away in the dark resesses of your wallet. Hopefully you won't have to show it to that many law enforcement officers either! "rlol"

Even the new DLs are flimsy. My old style DL is from '04 and is solid. My new updated DL is from June '09 and is weak. Talk about scrimping on materials. My CHL is flimsier yet and the laminate is weak. For what we paid for these things... :grumble

You guys should see my Virginia "CHL" - it's a hand-cut sheet of paper with Times New Roman font and the photo I sent in glued to the back. The license looks like it was run through a laminating machine and again cut by hand.

The license might not look like much, but the turnaround time for my license was less than 2 weeks from mailbox to mailbox. Maybe Texas has a few lessons it could learn from VA. :)
Carrying since 02/06/2009.
