CC at Gun Store

Simple (probably dumb) question, can you conceal carry in a gun store?

Yes. Unless they have posted a proper 30.06 sign.

Just do not retrieve you CC firearm and show it the the clerk or the gunsmith. Most guns stores requires you to get in with your firearm unloaded and boxed if you would like to sell it or service it.

As long as it's not 30.06 posted. Collector's Firearms has a sign saying CHL's allowed on the door.

If I found a properly posted gun store, I would not hesitate to do business elsewhere. I'm sure they're out there, though.

Along a similar vein, what about use of a concealed handgun at a shooting range? Can you CC up to the shooting line, then unholster, change ammo to FMJ, and fire away?

Where I shoot, there's a big sign on the outside saying no loaded firearms allowed upon entering. As all the employees open carry, I feel pretty safe in abiding by that rule. I take the mag out of the pistol, with chamber empty, and go in. I've not had a problem doing it that way. YMMV depending on the range rules.

But "No Loaded Firearms" is not a 30.06 sign. So does it necessarily apply to a CHL holder?

I don't know of any shooting range that posts a 30.06 sign. That would defeat the purpose of why they are in business to begin with. To be honest with you, I've never tried to second guess myself in that regard, but I'll ask them the next time I'm in there.

Only partially. Since it's not a 30.06 sign, you can't (IMHO) be arrested, but you can be asked to leave for violating the range's rules.

Depends on the range. All are different. You need to check with your local range for the rules on shooting your CCW.

Bullet Trap in Plano allows it as you stated above; unholster at the line, shoot, reload PD ammo and reholster ONLY when completed shooting.
