new to carry observations

I switched my wallet to the left pocket as well. It is really hard to get used to sitting on it that way after decades of having it on the other side.

The other issue I had was my holster squeaking like crazy. I ended up sprinkling some baby powder in all the areas where kydex met leather (MTAC shell and belt clips). Just a tiny amount and then wiped it all off. No more squeaking!

I want to echo everyone that has recommended the longer "tall" size shirts. Without this I sometimes have gone with shirts two sizes larger, but with the tall shirts I can go with shirts only one size larger than I would normally wear and now and then the same size that I would normally wear. I also like denim shirts. I know they are a bit heavy, but that usually keeps the wind from playing with it too much. To cut down on heat I might wear sleeveless shirts underneath.

As far as the wallet issue goes that's not as big a problem for me. Even though I carry at about 4 o'clock with wallet in left rear my spares are on the left. If I don't move them slightly forward to gain access I will simply put my wallet in the breast pocket of my shirt. If I'm wearing a jacket it goes in one of the jacket pockets. I also find this allows easier access when going through dive-thru's instead of trying to dig it out of a pocket I'm sitting on.

So, even the LCP is requiring some adjustments. I carry it in pocket with a Uncle Mikes #2. I carry my iPhone in my left pocket and my car keys in my right. I am thinking my right rear pocket is a good place for the LCP, but it is taking a bit of getting used to. I am borrowing my friends Crossbreed Supertuck for right hand and will use that tomorrow when I am out and about to get an idea if I like that config.

just wanted to say thank you. Looks like i might try the wallet in my left pocket for a while. Being right handed and CC my 1911, so far I have not had to much of an issue with getting my wallet out while at wally world but I have been utterly concerned event with it being in my supertuck.

This weekend I borrowed a friends supertuck. That holster worked great for me. It was really comfy and stayed in place well. I don't know how you could not conceal with that holster. I wore a long sleeve golf pullover and cargo shorts. He is a righty, but I think I could make that one work in a lefty. I think I will order one soon.

I wonder what other unexpected issues people run into when they start carrying.

My solution to the wallet problem when it hit me was to switch to a front pocket wallet. It holds my 3 bank cards/credit cards and my DL and CHL plus a few business cards. I hardly carry more than $20 in cash so the magnetic money clip works okay. Just figured I would throw that one out there too.

That's what I did too and it's soooo much more comfortable I wish I'd done that years ago, CHL or not.

About the wallet, I hate a thick wallet. My GF got me a really great Fossil wallet for Christmas, looks just like this one: It holds a few cards and the money clip is magnetic. Great wallet!

This is why I now carry my iPhone almost exclusively in a "holster" on my belt and not in my pockets. LCP in front right pocket, mini flashlight and car keys in front left pocket, wallet in back left pocket, pocket knife clipped to back right pocket, business cards and hankerchef in back right pocket, spare LCP mags in a little digital camera pouch clipped on my belt behind the iPhone holster on my left side.

Well, I have been carrying some since my plastic arrived a little over a week ago.

I am carrying with a Bullard Dual Carry in OWB configuration. I carry a Glock 19. I am a lefty and carry on my left side.

Here are some observations:

1. I am over the 1 in the pipe jitters. I carried around the house before the plastic arrived with a snap cap in to get some confidence. Also read some great article on how well the internal safety features in my Glock work.

2. My holster interferes with my pockets. I usually carry my wallet in my left rear pocket, but the holster is in the way of that pocket. I can still get the wallet in and out but it is a bit of a challenge. I have carried the wallet there all my life so moving it to the right side is an issue.

3. I can conceal completely with most shirts untucked, however many of my shirts are short enough that they can allow the tip of the holster to peek out. The barrel of the gun is not exposed as it is covered by the holster. Wonder if this is a conceal issue or not. I find myself pulling up the rig and my pants in fear of the tip being exposed.

4. I am still not over the fact that I am carrying in public. I find myself looking for reactions from bystanders. I am very cautious about bending over at the waist.

5. I realized that I need to prep my 10 year old since she is aware that I might be carrying. I got particularly nervous yesterday when I was picking her up from a friends. I was talking with her friends father when my daughter gave me a hug. All of a sudden I realized that she might look at me and say "Hey Dad your carrying your gun!" On the way home I explained how important it was for her to keep that to herself.

There is also fannypack carry. I generally carry OWB but do fannypack carry a lot during the summer when not wearing a good covering shirt and it works when riding motorcycles too.

The G19 is a little big for fannypack, but I've carries an HK P2000 many times, so it isn't too bad. Fannypack carry works best w/ smaller pistols like Kahr PM9 sized ones.

I carried for the first time today. I was going to carry my Commander sized S&W 1911, but I think my OWB holster (Milt Sparks Axiom) needs to be broken in. Instead, I carried a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless. Not the one in my sig(which I do own), but the same model. It concealed a little easier OWB than the 1911 does. It's a littl ethinner, and rides a little higher.

I am getting a 3" 1911 (Colt New Agent) next week, and I think IWB is gonna be used on that one. Earlier today, I slipped my 1911, in its holster, in my waistband. It was VERY comfortable like that. I actually won't be surprised if I end up liking IWB more than OWB!

Like a lot of you guys, I have started wearing my wallet in the left rear pocket. Here's how I used to used my pockets:

R Front: knife clipped to pocket, cell phone
L front: keys
R Rear: wallet

Versus now:

R front: empty
L front: cell phone and knife clipped to pocket
L rear: wallet
keys now clip onto 9:00 belt loop
