It's a sobering read and a reminder that concealed means concealed, and that not all police officers are very knowledgeable about CHL law. The charges were eventually dropped, but the CHL holder was still arrested, had handgun and license confiscated, and had to get an attorney.

Then why carry a concealed handgun at all? How many times have armed criminals attacked you?bdickens wrote:Still, I'm not going to rush out and get meteor insurance.chabouk wrote:It only takes once, when it's you.bdickens wrote:...so that's happened how many times?
Most of the people who get CHLs are people who believe in being prepared for what MIGHT happen, not just assuming, "Oh it will never happen to me."

There are different levels of risk, different levels of preparation, and different levels of risk appetite.MojoTexas wrote:Then why carry a concealed handgun at all? How many times have armed criminals attacked you?bdickens wrote:Still, I'm not going to rush out and get meteor insurance.

Some people are comforable carrying a pocket gun. Some people want a major caliber handgun plus a reload. Some people carry two handguns. Some people want to walk around with a FA M4.
Some people buy homeowners insurance and skip the flood insurance because they're outside the 100 year flood plain.
Life isn't safe. We each have to decide for ourself how to manage risk.

Eat a few burgers at Christie's Extreme Burger, and that MTAC Minotaur will be a lot more comfortable.glbedd53 wrote:I tried the second one you said and it just hurts. Too boney in that area. I'm 6' and 160lb . I haven't bought any IWB yet but a friend has one with a Kahr in it and I tried to wear it around for a while and it was pretty uncomfortable.

In all seriousness though, have you considered maybe some variation of shoulder holster?
While I do carry both IWB and OWB, both with small pistols (Kimber Stainless Ultra) and with large pistols (5" Springfield Loaded, and a S&W M&P 45), sometimes I can't carry on my waist because it hurts, and I'm anything but tall and thin. I have a chronic back issue, and when it acts up, belt carry is a pain. But I also own a Galco Miami Classic II shoulder holster, and it is actually fairly comfortable. There are several of us on the forum who use some kind of shoulder holster system.

I thought about shoulder holsters but it didn't seem like the way to go in the summer, 2 shirts and how do you get it out quick enough. I carry a Colt stainless Officer ACP. As for burgers, Whataburger had to add another delivery truck every day to feed me already. I guess it all must go out the other end.

Trust me... Whataburger can't carry Christie's jockey shorts.glbedd53 wrote:I thought about shoulder holsters but it didn't seem like the way to go in the summer, 2 shirts and how do you get it out quick enough. Of course it hasn't gotten hot yet, but on warmer days so far (mid 70º temps), a t-shirt under the harness, and a fishing vest over it have concealed it quite well, and it has been comfortable. And it is quite possible to deploy a small 1911 from a shoulder holster quickly. Check out THIS THREAD put together by LT and flintknapper. It is very informative. As I said, I carry a 3" stainless Kimber in mine, and it works just fine.
I think that what you're going to find, in general, is that no single holster is going to serve all your needs, all the time. That seems to be a very common experience. And sooner or later you're going to wind up with at least a couple of holsters that you no longer wear because you found something better, or your dress requirements and clothing style change, or like me you get a bad back, or whatever.

LOL...I keep trying to tell my wife that, and she keeps giving me grief for buying more holsters! I think I have almost a dozen now...(although roughly half are the el-cheapo Uncle Mike's variety). She says I buy holsters like a woman buys shoes...The Annoyed Man wrote:I think that what you're going to find, in general, is that no single holster is going to serve all your needs, all the time. Yeah, I have that holster collection already too, but I guess I'll keep adding to it.

Re: Reasonable attempt to conceal
I've learned some valuable lessons on the forum and I'd like to share a few tips with you. I too have a barrel of holsters collecting dust, but I wouldn't if I had known this first: "gun belts" make all the difference in the world. Try using the search feature on the forum and you'll see what I mean. Basically, they look like "regular" belts but they are super-stiff (I think they have kevlar inside them) The stiffness helps distribute the "support" around your waist. Combined with a proper IWB holster, (which for me is a Minitaur - kydex holster with leather backing and a "belt-clip" on each side) the setup allows me (5'6, 165lbs) to comfortable pack a Glock 30 (a chunky "chopped frame" double stacked mag. .45acp - pretty much a brick). Of course I bought pants with extra room for the gun. I'm very active when performing my job (lifting arms way up, squatting, running, but also having to sit for lengthy periods at times).
