Heeler, unless a church is posted 30.06, you may carry in a church. Choosing not to do so is merely a matter of conscience, not the law. Newbs are often confused about that one because the part that says it is permissible is not in the same paragraph that says it isn't. I just thought I would let you know. Of course, you do whatever you want with that information.

Same here, thankfully with the people and advice on this forum, it has helped tremendously for my confidence in carrying, especially getting past the "Im hiding something that I should not have" feeling of carrying a loaded weapon.

I assume the church was in Texas. If so, unless it is marked with the 30.06 signage, you are LEGAL to carry in there. Now should you choose not to, that is up to you, but do not feel that you must leave it behind.

Why? Unless it's 30.06 posted, it wasn't necessary to disarm.

I dont have my book here at work but I was under the impression that a church was on the list just like court houses, polling places,post office,etc.
In other words 30.06 sign or not it was off limits.
In the part of town it's in and the fact that it was 11:00 p.m. I really did not feel that good leaving the firearm in my truck which was a good 50-60 feet from the front door.

when you read the penal code, it does say "courtrooms, churches, etc" and if you stop there, then do not carry. but on the next page (someone can im sure quote the PC) it then states that for certain places (including churches, that they need to have the 30.06 sign or verbally state anything close to "you can not carry here"

Read section (i) that was added to require a 30.06 at some location that had been previously off-limits by the statutes. It is a very common mistake to not read on down. We have even heard of some instructors that still don't understand the change in the law.

Yesterday, Sunday was an unusual day for me too.
Some of our Deacons went to a church in another city, so I only carried 3 guns to my church tesrerday, My Taurus PT-92, my Glock 26 and a Seecamp .32 .... Pastor has his own .45 under his coat, so I didn't need to bring an extra for him yesterday.
When all the Deacons are there, I usually bring 6 or 7 pistols.... light weight of only 3 guns at church felt odd.

Obviously, we aren't posting 30.06 signs.

Also this is N.E. Houston and quite a rough area.

Unless the church was posted in accordance with paragraph 30.06, you would have been perfectly legal carrying there. See PC 46.035(i). If you stop reading paragraph 46.035 too soon, you are left with the impression that you cannot carry in church. However, the legislature later amended the paragraph to allow it unless the church is 30.06 posted.

We had a big festival at our church this weekend. There were 5 people there that I knew were carrying. (we either took the class together, or were referred to the class by the others).

This weekend, I forgot that I had it on. HEB, Randals, Church, Home Depot, football for my son, etc. It is becomming like having a blackberry on my hip.

I am actually supprised how quickly it has become not an issue.
