There are incompetents and jerks in many jobs. Some pathetic examples are both.

I guess maybe I have led a sheltered 51 year life, but I just never expected that kind of behavior from any LEO. Had several traffic contacts over the years and have friends in law enforcement and I was completely caught off gaurd.

he was truly out of line to lose it like that in front of the child like that. I'm honestly wondering if it was his first day riding alone? but still what did he think you were going to do.... a middle age guy with a wife and a small child....shoot him over a ticket??? (don't say it I know it's been done before, but still) if this kid's that scared he shouldn't be a cop....and he sounds like his fear made him angry, not like a bully (does that make sense?) he's going to get himself or someone else hurt.

Exactly why I can get pretty jumpy when pulled over. Not because I'm doing anything horribly wrong, or have anything to hide. It's just Russian roulette over which type of cop you've drawn.

Have to say, I kind of want to get pulled over while armed just so I can get this experience out of the way. Reading these horror stories, though, does not give me confidence. Haven't been pulled over in more than 10-15 years though...

I was recently pulled over for the first time in many years for failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. I also failed to surrender my chl and the officer never brought it up. He simply took my drivers license and proceeded back to his car for about 5 minutes. Upon his return he issued me a warning for the offense and told me to have a good evening. I didn't even realize that I had forgot about the chl until the next day while replaying the incident in my head.

This brings up a related question: If you are the passenger in a vehicle that has been pulled over do you need to surrender you chl? I don't remember this one being covered in class.

I believe only if the officer starts to directly deal with you or ask for your ID. You don't need to volunteer it if the LEO is only interacting with the driver.

To clarify, it's only if he asks for ID. You do not have to volunteer your CHL to an LEO unless it gets to the point of identification. Just 'dealing with you' in the passenger seat means nothing until/unless you're asked for ID.

Spoke with the chief of police in The Colony today. Very helpful and apoligetic. Had me send a letter to him about the incident and says they will review the video and get back with me.
