Got my TX CHL. What happens now when buying guns?
I was surprised to get my CHL in the post today. I took the exam Feb 18th, the FBI fingerprints were returned to be redone, and I got it today so that is a tad under 2 months.
Anyway, as luck would have it, I have two guns coming into my FFL dealer next week. Does he have to do the same paperwork as usual but just doesn't have to call it in? How does that change now that I have my license?
Cool to finally get it.
Aberdonian.

All the same paper work has to be done. When you fill out your 4473, just give him your CHL & he records that info & you walk w/o having to wait on the called in background check.
We welcome you to the board.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Thanks longtooth. That's great. Being a darned furrner it takes a wee bit longer for my gun purchases to go thru. Last time took about four days!
Thanks for the welcome. I guess I'm going to have to go out one of these days with a (gulp) gun concealed about my person.
We are off to some Hoe-Down (sp?) over the weekend and I just bought a new straw hat and started thinking... "Hmm one of those little Kel-Tecs could probably nestle in this hat somewhere!!! An inside-the-hat-band holster would be needed.
I wonder if anyone carries like that?
Thanks Aberdonian

That's a complicated question.Geister wrote:Will this also work for out-of-state permits that did have a federal background check?
You cannot purchase a handgun outside your state of residence.
A CHL permit from another state cannot be used to bypass a NICS check, even in your state of residence.
For example: Let's say I am a Texas resident and have a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit.
I cannot use the Utah permit to bypass the NICS check when buying a pistol in Texas. In addition, I cannot buy a pistol in Utah, even though I have a Utah license, because I am not a Utah resident.

Being as he referred to what us Americans call "mail" as the "post", I'd say he's from somewhere in Europe. Hence, the "darned furrner" part. And since he calls himself "Aberdonian", I'd say he's probably from Scotland. That would be my guess, anyway.lrb111 wrote:Okie??Aberdonian wrote:Thanks longtooth. That's great.
