First oopsie

About 1 am, after 18 hours carrying, driving for about 5 hours, I was in a 4 car caravan & noticed one of the drivers getting tired, so we all pulled over. A 5th car pulled over shortly after us & even into the same closed gas station as us. It was a former police crown vic.

As I was throwing some trash away, I was walking towards the crown vic. I wasn't quite comfortable having some one pull up like that & not go to a pump, especially that late at an closed gas station. They were equidistant from pumps on either side, so it was clear to me they weren't there to pump gas. As I'm walking towards them, with a pump between us, I notice the drivers eyes get kind of big. I throw away the trash & notice that they're just switching drivers, but I couldn't get over her face checking me out while I was really trying to check them out. Then it hit me . . .

My side was getting irritated by the grip rubbing my skin while driving. I took my shirt & tucked the edge between the grip & skin. I had unintentionally exposed my gun after getting out the car in a hurry. I had twice earlier tried to locate an allen wrench so I could adjust the cant angle so the grip was not so affectionate with my live handle. I know the saying even better now: carrying is a comfort, not necessarily comfortable.

The good thing is, if things did go south, my uncle was pulling up & he had two XD-9 in his truck.

We maybe drove another 15 mins before we just had to call it as the tired driver was not going to make it to Denton, so we got a hotel room in Corsicana, in one really crappy motel 6, but it was the only one that took pets..

Since adjusting the cant, I spent about 5 hrs yesterday walking around the museum way more comfortable! I never had an issue with anyone noticing anything either.

Was your point that perhaps, you may have foiled a robbery by unintentionally exposing your pistol or was post mostly about driving with an uncomfortable holster/gun - that you ultimately got adjusted more comfortably or ...?

Or, maybe I've not had enough coffee yet to understand the point of your post?

I believe his point (his "oopsie") was that he unintentionally exposed his handgun and possibly gave someone else an anxious moment when they noticed.

I never not wear anything between my skin and the gun. So my attire always includes a t-shirt under whatever other shirt I'm wearing. If I can't stand that, then it's time to pocket carry something smaller. I just hate the thought of sweating all over my gun......and I sweat a LOT.

You need to get in the habit of always checking your shirt when you get out of a car.

I have become addicted to undershirts and camis. Especially the "underarmour" moisture wicking ones living in SE Texas they are a must between me and my trusty sidekick. I even wear one now on those days where I can't carry and it is going to be off body.

I always try to coordinate my holster choices with my clothing choices so that I've got at least a thin layer between the pistol and my body. I have one holster that I will use without a layer of cloth between the pistol and me - and that's a N82 (pronouned "Nate Squared") holster that has a layer of closed cell foam with a moleskin backing between the pistol and my skin. Other than that, I always choose ot use a T-shirt or undershirt to intervence between my pistol and myself - even if I'm carrying OWB.

I saw that N8² holster & was liking it, but I didn't like the retention method. You had to twist to remove & under duress would not like be something you'd remember.
