Oh!! I almost forgot...

I am not going to Canada long term!!

I will be heading to Louisiana instead! If there are some Minutemen goings-on, I can drive back and join in! 8)

Baton Rouge area until end of November. Maybe short trips to Canada if issues develop.

Trips home from the bayou country are cheaper than flying down the central flyway with the snow and Canada geese. I can always talk the missus into driving over to eat at Brennan's or Emerril's in New Orleans. I promised to take her to Drago's and feed her a few dozen grilled oysters too.

I went to the border last October with the Texas Minutemen. This group is not affiliated with the MM Civil Defense Corp headed by Chris Simcox.

The TX MM only ask for a copy of your CHL instead of a background check. Chris Simcox's group wants $50 to do a background check and no they don't care if you have a CHL, they still want the $50. Money seems to be very important to them.

The TX MM encourage you to carry as long as you can do it legally. This means for CHL holders to carry the pistola concealed and have a rifle in the car/truck close at hand. No problem. Don't want to go armed, no problem either, but sure hope you don't need it.

I went with a friend who had a 4x4 truck and we just cruised the levy which is an elevated road about 30 yards from the rio grande. We would go out at night with a larger group, as you don't want to be there at night by yourself, and at sunrise we would cruise the levey until lunch. We had a great time and had a chance to make a difference. At night, we stayed off of the levey, but close by on a side street as the BP asked us to stay off of the levey at night. We did our best to work with them and not get in their way. I borrowed a Gen3 NV from someone and watched almost the whole night with it. Very cool, but expensive. I have one of the best Gen1 units, but it wasn't even close to the Gen3.

I'm going again in April to the same place, around El Paso area, and highly recommend anyone interested to go as well. We had the chance to talk to several Border Patrol agents and they were very supportive. Some of the stories they tell you just would not believe. I was very impressed with their professionalism as they are really between a rock and a hard place. They kept saying "off the record" as they are risking their careers talking to us. Their supervisiors don't want us anywhere around, but two of them told me and my partner that they appreciated us being there. Others were sympathetic as well, but guarded in what they said. The BP would stop and talk to us initally to see who we were and what we were doing there, but we were allowed to go wherever we wanted. This surprised me.

This time, I think there will be more action if the early months of 2006 are any indication of things to come. We went the last week of the operation last time and though we saw a lot of MX Military, we never saw them come across. We did see lots of groups on the other side waiting for a good time to cross. We waited them out though as they knew that we would call the BP if they came across.

As for Chris Simcox's group, I personally wouldn't be a part of them. First of all, with the TX MM, there is no reason to join a group that is based out of state and charges. The TX MM work on donations and the personal funds of it's two founding members.

Second, you don't have to pay to join the TX MM and firearms are no problem with them as long as you don't go around brandishing. Keep em out of sight and they don't care what you bring as long as it's legal.

I read about an operation Chris Simcox had in a small town, don't remember the name, but it was in TX and it was 75 or 100 miles from the border. I remember wondering how can you tell if someone is or is not an illegal when we have so many americans of Mexican decent in this area? I have several friends who look as mexican as any mexican there was and, unless you confronted them, you wouldn't know they were as american as you are. At least if I see someone cross the border, I know they are illegal as it's illegal for anyone to cross except through a legal port of entry. I would have a real problem confronting or even calling the BP on anyone who I was not sure was illegal.

We mostly used the binocs and called the BP when we saw illegals. Stay away from them and wait until the BP gets there. That way the aclu can't find anything to get you on. Pretty much like a neigborhood watch group with the exception that the illegals have more rights than other criminals in this country. Just try detaining an illegal and at the least, the aclu will file a law suite against you.

I don't recommend anyone go down there without belonging to a group and you really should be armed. Feel free to get in touch with me if anyone wants to go in April. Some people can go for the entire month and some can only go for a week. considering the drive, you might want to go for at least a week. If you do decide to go, I recommend going with the TX MM group as I was quite pleased with the people that I met as far as having someone to watch my back.

One more thing, a friend was trying to decide of he could leave his business to go to the border. He decided that it would cost him too much to go, but he made a donation instead of what he would have spent if he had gone. The founders have footed most of the bill as they rent a room and maintain a radio base station so we can all check in and call in illegals as we see them. The also travel a good bit scouting out places where we would be most effective and talk to land owners for permission to be on their land.

Sure would be nice if during a stand-off with the MX Mil there were a hundred TX MM standing up there with the LEOs. They have a difficult job.

I'm really glad that the Minutemen are there. Illegals make me sick, no matter what the race.
