Without a CHL, you can not take your gun with you to ride with someone else. It has to be your car or a car under your control.

Without a CHL, if your car breaks down (or is wrecked) and has to be towed somewhere, you can not legally carry the gun while taking a ride with someone else to get home. If it goes with the car, it is out of your direct control. Not a good thing.

Without a CHL, you are limited and gambling the need to defend yourself will only occur when you are inside or very near to the car. Watch the news for a while and ask yourself how many of those robberies, assaults, rapes, and murders happened to the person only while with their car.
