Wal-Mart carries these belt clip suspenders that I have been wearing. you can wear then inside or outside your shirt . I clip them in front of a belp loop sso it doesnt interfear with drawing my gun. There very easy to put on. Just an idea.

Suspenders/braces are a *very* good idea. I have all of my suit paints/dress slacks outfitted with the buttons for braces/suspenders...I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy when it comes to wearing pants. Your local tailor/suit shop (ie - Men's Wearhouse, Nordstrom, Brooks Brothers, Jos A Banks, etc.) can easily sew the buttons on to your trousers (or maybe your wife, if she can sew, can show you how to do it...mine cannot... )...or go with the clip-on suspenders. I'm a fan of the button-type, less chance of "ooops."

ok, so as another newbie... (and still waiting on plastic) this thread brings up a point for me... what is a considered a good gunbelt and where can I find them? I have been carrying IWB with a kydex holster around the house with my regular leather belt with no problems, but I don't know the difference.....help a fellow out!

There are lots of good belts out there, I would suggest you search here and see what you can find. I have a Galco belt but after a year it is beginning to sag so I am considering moving up to a Beltman Bullhide belt.

And your standard department store leather belt is not a gun belt - once you get one you will realize why.

I'm using a Foxx IWB hybrid right now, it's my first holster. I also went with their basic gun belt too. Both are comfortable and the retention for me is good. The leather has formed to my hip pretty well and I wear it all day with no issue. I also opted for the combat cut and kydex belt clips. They're based in Michigan and I received my holster inside a week. I'm waiting on my crossbreed super tuck horse hide to come in to try that one out.

A standard leather belt CAN be a gun belt - IF it is real leather, and not that fake stuff! I've been using a plain black leather belt, single-layer, for about five years now, both as an off-duty gunbelt, and as a hold-my-pants-up inner belt for my duty gear. Yes, it has worn itself flexible, but when combined with a decent holster and cinched a bit tight, it holds without flopping around. When fastened to the duty belt, it supports my pants and keeps my duty belt from falling around my knees.

My poor wife, however, needs a new gunbelt. We -thought- the one we got for her was of the same sort as mine... but it's that pleather crap. The layers of fake leather, each like a thick piece of paper, have come -apart- in fairly dramatic fashion, after only about a year.

Make sure you know which it is, if you go "department store belt." Or be prepared to replace fairly often.

Well, I have several department store belts, all of which are real leather. The one that I have been wearing the holster on around the house seems to hold it up pretty darn good.... which is why I asked in the first place. It's an older belt though and not as stiff as it once was, so I will try one of my newer ones that is stiffer first, then if not happy, I will ask the beautiful bride for a gun belt for my birthday or Christmas!

One of the only times outside work that I disarm is when I volunteer at a post VA hospital with my therapy dog "Flapjack". I keep my Crossbreed Supertuck on my belt and leave the Glock and extra mags in the truck. My pants stay up fine :)

I might as well follow up to my original post. After wearing the AlienGear holster for a couple of months now, there's no problem. I still keep the Uncle Mike's holster on the nightstand as something to slip the weapon into at night, like a sleeping bag. Thanks for all the replies and good advice.

I use the Outback/uBEE suspenders under a shirt.....holds my pants securely and allows my shirt to be tucked in.

You can even get a shoulder holster version....

I wish that there was a sticky that said "NEVER EVER carry IWB with a holster that does not retain it's shape without the gun in it".

If you are having to hold a holster open with your support hand while holstering, you are now pointing a loaded gun at your support hand while attempting to holster!!!!!!

As others have already said...Better holster that keeps its shape when the pistol is removed. (Leather or Kydex) and a good rigid Belt.

Dont sell yourself short when it comes to gear, your life depends on it!!
