Can you prescreen yourself?
I've voiced some concerns over my eligibility in a previous post but was wondering in general if there is there anyway to prescreen yourself to potentially save yourself time & money?
I mean when you go to get a loan you're supposed to check your credit and make sure there aren't any blemishes, is there any equivalent for a TX CHL?
I would think what ever records DPS has access to about me I would be granted clearance as well.

You can go here, register and pay $3 to see what Texas has on you.

I can assure you, now that we went through my husbands search that you can't just go by what the DPS check that you did online says. The reason is we know that Craig was indicted. So yes, the check was correct when it said no records found, but since you have to address every thing that has happened in your past then only you and the FBI know the true answer.
It was a battle but we got (i hope) enough information to cover what we put on his application. Like I told him, he has a selective memory. I am sure, cause I know him as well as anyone else, that he was a bad boy when he was younger. Nothing serious but he liked to party. So I hope he remembered everything to put on the application.
The search was correct, but I feel, after help from this board, if you dont document everything, you will delay your chl. Also, our instructor said that if you omit anything, it is as bad as lieing about it. Go figure.
Craig is way way out of state...so i thought i would reply since i have been reading on this board all day trying to learn.

It sounds like you have never even been arrested, is this correct? If you have never been arrested then you have never been charged. If you have never been charged you have never been convicted. If you have never been convicted, then you can get a CHL so long as you didn't just escape from the loony bin, are dopes up, behind on child support or various other things. Check out this link for the TXDPS FAQ page.
(It is a PDF file and the FAQ starts on page 71)

That's not quite true. You can be charged and have an arrest warrant issued, and never be arrested. That happens, most often, when someone racks up a bunch of traffic tickets, and then takes care of the matter without being arrested.biblefreak wrote:If you have never been arrested then you have never been charged.
You can be charged with a crime and not know it, at least for a while.
However, your advice is good for Atxgun. He was worried about tickets.

Good point! I hadn't thought about that. I think the FAQ page is pretty good at spelling out who does and does not qualify for a CHL and gives some pretty good examples to clear up any technical language.seamusTX wrote:That's not quite true.
