DPS Carry?

I don't know if this has been asked before, and I did do a search first, but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
My daughter has to renew her drivers license. May I carry in the DPS station where we go to renew our driver's licenses? There are some pretty creepy people there, and I would like to know before I go.

You can carry....no problem. (They're the ones that gave you the License to do so)

Let one of the instructors or Charles confirm this but I dont think you can carry in any DPS building. If it looks like a Police Station, appears to be a Sheriff's Office, or otherwise resembles any LEO official gathering place for the business of Law Enforcement:
I dont think you can carry & that includes the DPS.
My .02cents & some think it worth half that.

I was at the DPS office in Texas City recently and they have the 30.... sign posted on the front door.

If it's not posted.......you can carry......
It does look like a LE Station and you can carry in ANY LE Station in the State of Texas as long as you remain in the public area. You have to disarm if you go inside past the normal public area of any LE Agency.

So how do you do
that without breaking concealment? At that point, aren't you in violation of the law? It seems that prudence dictates that you disarm and secure the weapon before entering if there was any possibility that you would have to enter into a controlled "back" area.

Ok. Now I'm confused.
We're going to the DPS office in Hurst (thats around Fortworth) off of I-820. It's where you go to get renewals and new licenses. So...?

You simply inform that you are carrying when entering a secure area and they provide a lock box for you to put your gun. No they will not charge you for failure to conceal........
If they are one of the probably many stations that do not have lock boxes available for the public, then you will exit the building, disarm and re-enter.

In Texas City it is posted on the FRONT door. How do you get past that?

I was just in that office a couple of weeks ago. I don't recall seeing any signs posted about firearms, although I do remember one about cell phones. But I could have just plain missed it.

I will admit that the sign is hard to see. It is posted in black letters on a tinted glass window. I was looking hard because I had just finished my CHL class, but it is there.

The Rowlett police station has a non compliant sign at the front door (had to pay a ticket). I thought that I read somewhere that a police station doesn't have to post a compliant sign, that any posted written notice would do. I could be mistaken, or the poster could have been, but I am pretty sure I read that somewhere here.

So, the consensus is if there is not a 30.06 sign then it's ok to carry there. Right?

Probably a wise way to interpret this. I don't believe though that a 30.06 sign is valid in a DPS office. I would however be reluctant to test this one.
