Looking for a recommendation for the North Austin/Southern Williamson County Area. Looking for complete package (fingerprints, photos, etc). Anybody know of a good one?

Red's Guns in Pflugerville. That is where I went and the instructor is pretty good. Although it is a long day - one day for the whole thing - you never have to leave the building as the range is downstairs from the classroon. He will do all of the pictures and notarizations and test and course in one sitting.

Oh - live in Leander, so I know the area. There are less expensive places to have it done, but I didn't find anywhere else that was as convinient or all inclusive.

If you are getting recomendations from Heritage... well, you need a new gun shop! Drive north on 183 until you get to the middle of Cedar Park. In the strip center at 183 (Bell) and Brushy Creek / Buttercup Creek there is a much better gun shop - "The Gun Shop".

Although I have heard good things about that CHL-Texas program as well... just not so much about that gun shop. It used to be a great place and then changed management.

My first CHL training class was with Ross Bransford at chl-texas . . . I took it at Cook's Sure Shot, now Red's North. Good class, good instructor, but the Pflugerville cop he brought in to do the prints wasn't so good, I had to have DPS redo them when I took in my packet.

I don't know what you mean by S-Williamson/N-Travis counties, but I would like to HIGHLY reccommend Ross Bransford of CHL Texas. Yes he is in Austin but I can guarantee you will not regret taking the course from Ross. Good luck, and feel free to PM with any questions about my experience in the class.

Actually, this is a really old thread. I did take my class from Ross at CHL Texas, and was very happy with the class, the way he ran the range, and the photos / fingerprints. I continue to recommend him to several people.

I also took my class from Ross and learned a lot in the class. When I took it ,we did our range test at a place that has closed down, the range just outside of Manor. Austin skeet and Rifle or something like that. I don't know where he holds that part of the class anymore.

I took my class on 14 APR 07 with Joshua Felker. He runs Lonestar Handgun [Lonestar Handgun - http://www.lonestarhandgun.com].

This guy is great. He is a former infantry officer [CPT, 4th ID] and knows his stuff!. Josh does EVERYTHING inside the classroom, from the photos to the fingerprinting. He has the packets already in the classroom so you don't have to request them from DPS ahead of time unless you want to. He takes you through the whole process of filling out the packets during the class, and by the time you get your TR-100 at the end of the day after qualification, you're squared away and ready to send it all in.

Best rates for ANYTHING around the Killeen/Fort Hood area.. although he does classes in San Antonio [where he resides] and in Killeen. $90, federal employees, group discounts $80, military $60.. all the details are there on the page. You will not be disappointed with anything he has to offer.

Furthermore, he does everything in a well-created slideshow, unlike others who just read from a book and use a dry erase board. Everything is laid out and well presented. I can't say enough good things about the training I received.

By the way, since you're in North Austin, and you will be positively and extremely happy with his instruction down here in Killeen [or San Antonio], the range is located right off 183.. so after that evening's qualification, you're halfway home!]
