If you start your application online, you get the PIN at that time.

If you mail in the application without starting online, DPS mails you a packet with the PIN and instructions for using it. You can go to a web site and check the status of your application.

If you don't get the letter a month after you mailed your application, it doesn't hurt to call or e-mail DPS. A number of people called and then got the PIN a few days later.

It took just about 1 month to get my pin in the mail. I did my entire application through the mail (no online application), if that helps any.

Yea I'm not saying it's an exact science, and honestly I can easily live without the pin. All it does is motivate me to check the status online everyday, which by the way doesn't make processing my application go any faster. If you don't see it in another week or so just give them a call (warning: you might have to wait on hold a while, so be patient)

Wouldn't make any plans for spending the money you get from the law suit. Just stay home, take afternoon naps, clean your 1911, and take two aspirin. The time will pass. Slowly, but it will pass.

Lunchbox, I'm new to this forum, but have had my CHL since Jan. 1995. Anyway, if you are worried about your drive until you get your CHL, you can now carry in your car and be legal from what I understand.

Actually, I believe it must have been Jan. 1996, not 1995. Getting old, I guess.

gdunkin52 has a point. You can carry a concealed pistol in your vehicle.

This doesn't help much when you get to work if that's what bothers you but I guess you could deliver newspapers and solve that problem too. ;-)
